Hello all, I am looking to build my board game collection and I was wondering what the most reliable secondhand source is in your experience.

Meaning, I would like as few missing pieces/parts as possible.

The local library in my area often has games to check out if you are either interested in trying before you buy, or just not buying them and borrowing from time to time to have some variety.

        Library cards are free!

Check to see if you have a St Vincent DePaul near you. Our games are so cheap and almost most have all the pieces, some still have original wrapper on them.

          Board games are so expensive!!

It amazes me at how expensive they are but at SVDP our prices makes it possible for families/people to be able to add more games to their collections.

          Edit same goes for puzzles

we have lots of super nice puzzles that’s usually donated by the same few puzzle fans and they always make sure that everything is in the box even the instructions with the pictures.

I tried to buy two games from a lady on marketplace for five dollars each. One still had the plastic on it. When I met her she loaded up the back of my suv with ten plus games.

I kept trying to tell her I was only buying two. She finally stopped loading and told me it was too much trouble and she just wanted them gone.

I guess I’m trying to say check marketplace first.

If people have lots of games they will probably bundle for a great price.

I have never tried but if they aren’t busy I don’t know why a thrift store wouldn’t let you open a game and check while they supervise.

The employees at the thrift stores near me have always been helpful about helping me check to see if things work etc.

Thrift stores and if your library system has a Friends of the Library store.

I always open up and check the pieces.

Gaming stores sometimes sell used games. Other than that a gaming convention where they have a swap meet

We use the buy nothing site. Our library also has a puzzle exchange.

We use tiny toys for pawns when we’re missing one.
