I am traveling by plane to see my childhood best friend in a month. She is wanting livermush (North Carolina staple).

Since it needs to stay cold can anyone suggest the best and cheapest way to travel with it and get through TSA?

      Shipping overnight is to costly.

I’m concerned ice packs will not be allowed with them being a frizen liquid.

Please do not freeze livermush if possible! It changes the texture and it’s definitely not as good!

Depending on how many flights and layovers, I just flew with cold packs in my checked suitcase and last month had frozen hotdogs in a checked suitcase, approx 10 hrs of travel and still frozen solid.

Can livermush be cooked then frozen?

Pack it in a cooler bag with frozen ice packs, put in suitcase. Check the bag and it will be fine.

Call the airline to see if you can carry it on with you and then I would pack it with ice packs that are made to last 48 hours.

You can take frozen water through security and onto the plane. I take ice through all the time as I don’t like water unless it has a lot of ice.

I just dump the water that may have melted right before going through security.

Also, I had someone bring me Tarka indian food, from Austin to Hawaii. Frozen flat in ziplock bags and then in a cooler.

He brought on the plane as his personal item no problem. Was still frozen after the 8 hour flight.

If you cannot freeze it, pack it in a waterproof container. Place it in a slightly larger insulated bag with thin, frozen ice packs around it on all 6 sides.

Include the itemized contents (in a ziploc bag)into the insulated bag. Put this in your CHECKED baggage.

It should be fine surrounded by clothing in the baggage holds.

Thin Ice packs can sometimes be found near kids’ lunchboxes or camping gear in stores.

call or go to the TSA website. you could be worrying for nothing

Can this stuff be frozen? Pack with ice pack in aluminum foil and a or a cooler bag.

Pack in suitcase not carry on

Food is frozen and shipped overnight with ice packs. Can you just ship it to her overnight in advance instead of taking it in the plane?
