Starlings are entering my roof through this area and nesting. It is an ongoing annual problem. I’ve tried bird tape and making the area inaccessible but they undo anything we try.
I thought about spraying expanding spray foam back inside there, but wasn’t sure if that was a good idea or not. Whoever put roof on did not do it correctly. Nothing I can do about that now.
A new roof is not an option and thankfully it does not leak. Anyone had a similar situation and found an easy, frugal solution? Please don’t tell me to live and let live. These birds are destroying my roof and I want them gone.
I don’t live in their nest, they don’t get to live in mine either. As far as legally, these birds are not protected in any way shape or form in Kentucky because they are not supposed to be here.
They are an invasive species and not good for the local environment.
I really hope somebody out there has the solution we are looking for.
BethGo to a hunting or sports store like Academy Sports (in the US) and get some Fox Urine in a bottle.Yes, there us such a thing and it WORKS.
Put a few drops where they are coming in.
It will smell like a predator to them and they will leave voluntarily. PRO TIP- Use gloves!
BeverlyWe had an awful problem with Starlings. I just hate the buggers! We were able to close the area off by wrapping mesh wire over it and screwing it down.
If you can handle the look of it, it worked for us.
JanI use anything glittery. Holiday glitter pieces. I tie them all around my garden so all the birds stay away from my plants.
The quail will dig in all my flowers without the glitter stuff
HeatherGet someone to come to finish the edges off. They use the straight sheet metal and bend it to make a seam.
CarolGo to Lowe’s, Menards or Home Depot and ask them for advice. A lot of times those guys can tell you exactly what to do.
JenniferIt might work- try putting a plastic owl in a strategic place. It’s cheap and easy and it might work. I’ve seen a lot of people using these.
Google on where to buy.
I’ve had mine so long I don’t remember where I got it.
DebbieI think foam strips that fit the scalloped edges can be bought. Check with wherever metal roofs are sold.
MaryThey have plastic vents at Is hardware store or home depot. You can put up there so they can’t get in.
