I was a student nurse in the late 1970s. At the end of the shift we did a ‘tidy round’ and gathered newspapers and magazines etc.
We then went through all the newspapers for money off coupons.
I remember one of the magazines had a page where you could send your tips and get paid if it was printed.
I was paid £5 (a lot of money then!) for my tip to toast Rivita crisp breads which were past their best.
I did this when I literally had nothing left to eat. It was awful!
Anyway, there are magazines these days that pay for life stories, tips, funny photos. Just a thought- maybe an easy way to make a little money
DennisThat’s such a fun memory! It’s crazy how times have changed but it’s great that you found ways to make extra money back then.
I love the idea of magazines paying for stories, tips and funny photos.
It might even be a great way to make a little extra cash today too especially with some of the opportunities out there for life stories.
Thanks for sharing the tip!
SandyI remember back around then that readers digest paid a lot.. And I think the Enquirer did also
DebbieDon’t know if Women’s World still pays for Angel Stories but years back I wrote one, it was published, got $100 and the Doctor who collected the stories put it in a book that was published.
Check it out.
RitaNo money
But I had a recipe printed in Southern Living one timeAndreeLove this story for me nurse training was in the 80s and I was skint too but had a ball. Remember the tidy up round at the end of the shift.
Which was a lot better than the sputum rounds when we had to chart the colour viscosity and the amount of sputum.
Which I think is most nurses least favourite bodily fluid! Back in the day we had to was suction bottles out as well not all change is bad is it? Great idea about money off coupons and selling stories!
I think your story would be more likely to sell than mine though.
Happy day though!
TheresaA few years ago, I sent a tip to thriftyfun. Got $50 for it.
