Who’s paying $99/yr for the Motley Fool/to pick up stocks? Worth it?
Is Motley Fool’s $99/year subscription a good investment for stock picks? I’m considering signing up but would like to hear from others who have tried it.
Does their advice lead to consistent returns or outperform the market? Are there better alternatives for beginner or intermediate investors?
Your thoughts and experiences would be greatly appreciated!
TIA!
FrankNo. They issue so many recommendations that some of them conflict and you just end up with a pseudo growth fund at the end of the day.
The idea is that if you throw enough spaghetti at the wall, some of it will stick.
Their podcast is pretty decent, though.
BillIf they actually could consistently pick wining stocks, why on earth would they sell that unique ability to the general public for $99?
That’s a multi-trillion dollar ability if it existed.
TimMy friend loves it. They got him in on NVDA like 15 years ago for one.
MarkI did and lost money following their picks. Index funds way outperformed.
ChrisI subscribed to one of their newsletters in 2008. Picked one heck of a year to do that
JenelleI did once, I didn’t like the service (I really enjoy their podcasts) and cancelled it after the first year.
RickThese service don’t connect well with me.
Partially because they don’t find what I am looking for which is value during bad times.Things like energy when oil was negative per barrel.
Banks after two evaporated to fdic receivership. Mag7 when they were the trash bin 7.
They try to identify growth when it is doing well and hopes to do better.
And that does not connect well with me. Maybe I am not their target market.
GerwynI have $50 this year. Been with them for a while now. I only subscribe for stock advisor and pick mostly larger caps companies that I’m familiar with. nvda was 1st recommended in 2006 and Tsla in 2011.
I used their research/transcript to help me pick the companies I like . It’s all about time in the market, the longer you keep them, the greater the chance of beating the market.
