I’m a school teacher in Texas leaving the profesión this year due of burned out. With the recent approval of school Bouchers and what I have heard about Tescher retirement system of Texas (TRS), I’m worry about loosing my money.
I’m not planning on returning to education.
Would it help me to try to take my money out and roll it over over to on IRA?
Johnnot sure how old you are but I was a teacher in Rhode Island. They stole most of our pension and reduced ti twice!!! as well as extended your working years by decades.
Now they are messing with retirees COLA and when the pension is “funded” stealing from the fund like a kid in a candy jar.
I would take my money are manage it myself.
I will get screwed by this state for the rest of my life-and my wife is in the same boat so 2 x the pain
StefHave you paid into social security enough to be able to collect? If no I would do everything in my power to accomplish that.
My ex is a teacher and we prioritized that as part of his retirement planning.
His mother never paid in, she was a school secretary and just paid into TRS, and it’s a disadvantage for her.
AnastasiaGood riddance. When “teachers” care more about money than their grammar, that’s a tell all sign, they are in the wrong profession. You’re worry?
Keep loosing that profesión!
Take writing 101.
JenniferI’ve taught 7 years in Texas and this is my last year too. I’m rolling my money into an IRA.
I’d have to be 83 before I would be eligible to collect anything.
And that money earns 2% a year in TRS (that’s terrible!)
