I know it’s impossible to say with how fast everything is changing but what jobs / fields would you recommendedd to a high schooler that is safe from AI in the next 10-20 years?

I know trades is the obvious one but my son has a physical disability so trying to give him some other options

Computers gave rise to a whole ton of new job roles building, maintaining, developing, and securing computers.

AI is already doing the same.

Lean into it – learn AI.

Sales
Companies cannot exist without sales. And most don’t just want passive sales/customer service.

Depending on the disabilities- lab analysis and water/wastewater operators.

They need to be able to work together when labs are off to figure out how to correct the imbalances and then to investigate and address the problem, often illegal dumping of some sort.

Dispatchers will always be needed, though with the very high stress, I’m not sure if I can reccomened that for everyone.

Anything involving direct physical training or therapy for human beings.

Nothing. There is literally nothing that isn’t impacted by continually more sophisticated automation. However, every new iteration creates new opportunities too.

Kids today are going to need to continually be learning and upskilling in every industry.

Anything that involves critical thinking, communication, entrepreneurship, innovation.

I think it’s nearly impossible to predict what the landscape will look like even five years from now, so it’s always good to focus on what you actually enjoy doing and go from there.

That said, I always tell my social-worker husband that he has one of the most secure jobs out there; he does private-practice therapy, and no one wants to talk through their most personal problems with a computer.

we human still prefer human to give services in physical care. So, hair, nails, make up, massage, hospice / elderly care, animal care (i.e pet grooming).
