Advice where to start with a 1k investment for my 14 year old daughter?
I want to invest $1,000 daughter with a long-term perspective. My goal is to help her build financial security or give her a head start in adulthood.
Should I consider a custodial brokerage account, a high-yield savings account, a 529 college savings plan, or something else?
I’d love to hear your insights on the best options for growth, safety, and flexibility.
What would you recommend?
SharonIf she’s planning on going to college and does not have savings towards her education, consider a 529 college plan.
JenniferDoes she have earned income? If so, a Roth IRA. My 12yo has a Fidelity Roth, mostly in FZROX.
ReginaI started my daughter off in Fidelity ZERO Total Market Index Fund (FZROX) when she started her first teenage job.
The expense ratio is zero.
WilliamLow cost index fund for 80/90% of it. The rest of it have her pick a company she likes and start the process of learning about investing.
Lisadigital asset is the best thing to do. I just got started few months ago and I’m already covering my car payment and clearing my debts.
I make five figures monthly.
It’s really promising, happy to share cause we rise by lighting others
JohnA total stock market or S&P 500 index fund if she plans to keep it for her future.
If she needs the money in the next 10 years a money market making around 4% now is more appropriate.
When she starts working she can have the same investment in a Roth IRA
OlgaAgree on Vaguard ETFs, but also add some individual stocks. I asked my teens for opinions, and they actually had some good suggestions.
They know what’s hot and tending sooner than we do, it seems.
JoshuaI have my kids UTMA in FZROX, but I would recommend and low to no fee total market or S&P index fund
KathyWe opened a brokerage and she picked and individual stock (Starbucks) and we put the rest in fxaix
BlairThe above is fine. But if she is involved. You could do slices of individual stocks so she has an ownership in it and can see and touch what she owns.
That’s what I do and they like knowing and seeing Microsoft, Home Depot Walmart etc.
you may not agree with each. but it’s a good learning experience.
If not involved. Answer above is perfect.
