I need to talk to a dietician and have an appointment on the books. I called the insurance company with the medical code, and it is not a covered service.
The out of pocket estimate (absolutely NOT guaranteed) is $250/15 min visit.
I am past my outrage about the expense and my aggravation with health insurance and am not looking for anger or pity.
I am seeking ideas for practical, creditable, inexpensive (or free) help on some nutrition questions.Who can help with naming solutions, or even resources to help me find help.
TIA
RobinHonestly, try ChatGPT. Describe carefully the requirements you need and what you want produced. “Provide a 30-day meal plan to prevent prediabetes from progressing to diabetes.
Do not include (insert foods you are allergic to or really hate).”
You’d be surprised how well it does.
StaceyOur local recreation center offers nutrition classes and dietician advice appointments.
They were not 250 a visit.
Much cheaper.
KarenWhat kind of dietician help do you need…such as Diabetic diet (go the the American Diabetes Association) disease specific visit the relevant website.
There will be resources there that can help.
Call your local hospital and ask for the registered dieticians and ask for local help/resources.
They will have info since many don’t have insurance coverage for this service.
Francessdiabetes has been mentioned a few times. diabetic training (I had mine done at a hospital) is a covered expense if your doctor writes you a prescription
JeanneBefore you pay $250 you should shop around. Many grocery stores offer this for free for a half hour or hour and many nutritionist offer this service for an hour for that cost or less for one to three sessions.
NeshaHyVee has dietician services, and other grocery stores do too.
SusanMost hospitals have free access to a dietician. Your GP general doctor should be able to get you information or call yourself.
I’ve used the one in Logansport Memorial.
AngelaTry and see if a nutritionist is covered on your insurance… Albeit a little bit different credentials than a dietitian but from my understanding more insurances cover a nutritionist.
I guess it just depends on what you’re trying to accomplish
RobinI also used AI recently to analyze the micronutrients in my diet. Due to chronic illness, my foods are limited and that can lead to malnutrition.
It did very well.
ShirleyFirst, it should be criminal to see a new patient for only 15 minutes. If this is not for a medical condition buy the very best whole foods you can afford and eat a normal number of calories for you.
Whole foods are fresh fruits, veggies and unprocessed meats.
As those things are very expensive these days eat as many one or two ingredient foods as you can.
Pasta and pasta sauce is a good choice. Frozen fruits and veggies and low salt canned veggies.
SarahIt would help to know what kind of nutrition info are you needing.
Diabetes?Caloric/weight loss
Kidney friendly
EtcPaddyIf it is for diabetes don’t waste your time with their nutritionist as they go by outdated guidelines.
I reduced my diabetes with no meds by following a diabetes group online that will help you substantially.
They also have a sister page with endless recipes
GlendaI used a dietitian for a few months. Plenty of resources for you to do it on your own.
JordanI take my dietetic license exam in 40 days and would be happy to help with questions you might have if you want to message me, no charge.
JuleneLili Kane is a registered dietician with a high level of social media presents. She also offers one on one consults and prices are for 30 mins and an hour.
And if I recall it’s way less than $200.
I watch her a lot on YouTube.
