I’m a senior citizen, and so are most of my friends. We are still having birthdays, thankfully, but none of us are looking to accumulate more stuff.
My new birthday gift idea is to call a few days before the birthday and say, “what kind of birthday dessert would you like?” Some of the answers are surprising, lol.
I would think everyone would want chocolate, but that is not the case, lol. I then go to the store and get the dessert, which is usually under $10.
I would make it if I could, but I don’t have a kitchen right now (Hurricane Milton). So I buy whatever they want, and give a card which says how much I cherish our friendship (less than $1 from Dollar Tree).
Invariably, it makes them happy. And, it’s super easy and I don’t have to wrap it.
SallyFabulous. Fabulous idea! This way you get to spend a little time with them.
If they drink tea that could be another way to spend time with him if they don’t eat the dessert
DebbieMy 3 best friends & I go out for lunch & a movie on each of our birthdays. We are now old enough for the Senior Discounts.
LOL We have been doing this for over 30 years.
No gifts, no stuff that we don’t need. Our company is the greatest gift.
SamanthaI’m in my 30s and every year for as long as I can remember my mom asks me what dessert I want for my birthday and she always makes it for me.
It’s my favorite tradition. I love your idea.
Lorifood of any sort is always a great gift. Cake would be my preference for sure though
TamaraTime is so precious. A bag of chocolate, popcorn, cheese (it’s delicious) a movie…that you love, with the ones you love (that you talk all the way through)..yep…
JackieMy daughter’s birthday group writes the recipients name on a post it and recycles the card also. You’re so right about we seniors not needing “stuff”.
My children insist on getting us something so gift cards are my answer.
I have coffee with friends daily and haven’t spent money yet this year and I’ll get more gift cards for Mothers Day and my July birthday.
No gifts from or for friends, just time spent together is gift enough for us.
WendyI would much rather have that than a gift. Or a dinner out with friends and family
MaureenExcellent idea, we’re also Senior citizens, bunch of ladies. We meet for a birthday lunch at a restaurant of choice, and give R100 each to the birthday girl, who can then choose what splurge she would like.
Much easier than searching for gifts
AndreeYep, nobody wants stuff we want time with people we love and stuff we can eat or drink or flowers!
Hand made stuff can be nice to!
AllisonI like it. I don’t need another single thing that I have to clean or find a place to put it
DonnaGreat idea!!!! If they don’t eat sweets, you could even offer to make their favorite dish.
CelyLots of fun. For me, a senior citizen, it is just the celebration that I love. A cake is great.
