Last month, my fiance’s company cut his hours by half, he is a project manager for steel fabrication company. He has been job hunting with no luck.

With 15 years experience in project management, trades cost estimation, and also has certifications in IT. Other than Indeed, any advice on job hunting/leads?

He is 34 y/o, in Los Angeles, CA.

Sorry if this isn’t quite FIRE but we are desperate and he has already cut into 401k.

Due to tariffs, his steel fabrication company will likely dissolve by end of year due to lack of projects.

PMs are in demand especially within supply logistics construction and energy.

Get a resume review make sure you are using the same verbiage within the resume as is in the job descriptions you are applying for.

Ensure any certs are listed, safety, pursue CAPM or PMP if possible you can take the courses on UDEMY.

Don’t hesitate to take another job/role/title in the interim to stay afloat depending on the pay difference or even a part time.

Have him look at opportunities with Contractors. He’s got to have connections already since contractors source from his factory and he likely has to coordinate with them since he is the PM?

If his old first is still covering benefits, he can fill in the rest of hours with remote work which might pay more.

So, he started working as a PM in steel fabrication at age 19?

I can’t help but think some people are here just to provoke a debate.

Don’t be afraid to look outside of Los Angeles, or even the state. Maybe it’s time for a move?

LinkedIn would be a better place to check, a few of my friends also use the # options to the roles they are looking for.

When 2008 financial woes happened, we moved to Saudi Arabia as there were NO jobs in our industries. Saudi was booming and still is.

If you are adventurous, check out all of the jobs open due to the development.

Reach out to recruiters. We were there 8 years, and it was an amazing experience.

I hope this gives you some fresh ideas.

Shouldn’t the tariffs favor American companies? That’s the intent to penalize imports from other countries.

Unless his company is sourcing from outside US.
