I don’t like having to feel “obligated” or pressured to spend lots of money just because it’s a certain holiday. That being said, expectations are what they are and some things, like marital bliss, can’t be measured by how much is spent.

Maybe next year you could plan ahead on something very creative, like an outing, that doesn’t cost as much as a full-blown dinner.

When hubby and I were young (and cheap) we spent our first Valentines Day recreating the Thai pizza from California Pizza Kitchen’s cookbook.

After buying fish sauce and peanut sauce and about $40 of odd ingredients, prepping the dough 24 hours early to get the proper rise, and using every pot and pan I owned (that we later spent 2 hrs handwashing- I had no dishwasher!) it was a miserable frugal fail.

I still laugh that we went to such lengths to save on a $20 pizza and a decent tip.

I got flowers and Chinese food take out 🤷🏻‍♀️ would’ve been okay without the flowers but appreciated the gesture/gift. Chinese food was a plus as I had a bad headache and didn’t really feel like cooking.

We made handmade/printed cards to exchange for one another and we agreed to have our Valentine’s Day dinner as lunch on another day.

I think for most women, we’re just happy that we’re acknowledged and appreciated on Valentine’s Day… it’s not about the gifts.

Lol…my husband was after me yesterday with …”are we gonna buy shrimp, steak and lobster to cook for a Valentine’s dinner?”, to which I replied that we are not working to save all this money so that we can just eat it, literally…LOL. I then conceded to buy a bag of shrimp…lol.
