We got approved for the Chase Sapphire with the bonus (spending $5k in a couple months). What are you hacks to meet this minimum spend without going out and spending $5k just to spend $5k?

      I hope this makes sense.

Congratulations and welcome to travel hacking. There is no such thing as “we“ in credit cards. It is always under one percent Social Security number.

Once you meet that spend, refer the second one of you(a.k.a. player 2) to the same card and then you can combine your points.

We’ve been doing this for almost 7 years now and have taken some fantastic trips that we wouldn’t have been able to otherwise.

(we just got back from Greece three days ago) Granted, we have higher expenses than a lot of people, but literally everything goes on a credit card.

Property Tax, Utilities, buy Gift Cards for stores (Amazon) you regularly shop at etc

BTW, how much bonus points will you get with the card?

Pay your homeowner’s insurance and car insurance for a year. Groceries, gas, repairs. Membership/subscription fees.

            Dining out.

Whatever you typically spend money on!

Groceries, gas and utilities! Just shift all of your ‘normal’ spending to that card for a few months

Like others have said, shift all your usual credit card spending to the new card.

When I opened my Sapphire Reserve, I was in the middle of planning a big vacation, so that was incredibly helpful.

As people recommended, you can pay perhaps federal taxes if they are due or property taxes using the credit card.

However, there is usually a 2 to 3% fee for doing that so figure out if it’s worth paying the fee.

One thing you can do is to buy a bunch of gift cards that you can use in the future, such as Amazon or Visa.

This way you simply accelerate the spending to meet the requirement.

It’s not much, just moved regular spending to that card.
