I wonder if anyone has found better health insurance options for retiring early outside of options via the ACA.
I’m finding the ACA options a bit restrictive given that my coverage only covers me with providers in my immediate area outside of emergencies.
I do have some pre-existing conditions that don’t impact my day-to-day life but would be concerning to get insurance that wouldn’t cover me for those if something changes.
Thanks in advance
RobertI’m afraid that I can’t give you any advice; because I get my healthcare from the VA.
But I’m sure if you do enough Internet research (along with the opinions of some of the folks on here) you should be able to find some options.
Have you thought about an insurance broker?
JohnI don’t know how you are going to find any reasonable non-ACA private insurance that will cover your pre-existing conditions.
Kind of the entire point of ACA.
PamLook for insurance companies with broad coverage across the country – like a BCBS or Cigna.
I had good luck getting just about anyone to take BCBS.
DonnaOregon (PacificSource insurance company) partners with Aetna to provide nationwide coverage.
I presume you already researched, but letting you know that nationwide coverage exists through the ACA.
Hope you can find that option in your state.
ShawnI found an ACA plan in my area that does cover stuff like that. There have been years with few options and it matters a lot where you live.
I have a local insurance broker through my credit union that helps me pick a plan every year.
FrederickIt depends on your state. I only had a couple providers that covered me nationally.
SeanIf you decide to move to Florida we have some options with PPO plans.
Not that I’m recommending it but if you have family in Florida you could probably just use their address to get a Florida plan.As long as you’re not worried about subsidies they won’t look that closely at it anyways, of course I’m sure you aren’t allowed to do that so I’m not recommending it.
I do know people who have done it without issue though.
DeborahLook at a health sharing plan we had one for about 5 years with no issues at all in fact my husband had back surgery and it was 100% shared and reimbursed including in home physical therapy!
When we started it was $325 per month for 2 of us with a $500 deductible 5 years later it went up to $525 a month for 2 people with a 1k deductible but for us way cheaper than the market place!
DenaI’m an avid insurance user (stupid cancer) & even private insurance is restrictive where I live.
I currently have ACA coverage & can go out of network with my plan for a $40,000 deductible which I’m working on using as we speak to go to Mayo Clinic.
It may vary state to state so I would discuss this with local insurance brokers.
Good luck!
