I have my June budget which is set to $1,200. I will be out of work for hand surgery, I’m estimating 60% for my short term disability-I believe it’s $1,400, however, I calculated and budgeted for the lowest just in case.

And no, I’m not able to work at all while I’m on LOA and on short term disability.

I’m in sub tropical Brisbane Australia, living in an inner city vertical retirement village, so my expenses would be very different to yours.

A major economy for me is that I cancelled wi fi, and use my mobile phone as a hotspot.

I get 300 GB data per month plus all calls , texts etc.

for $55 per month with Vodafone, and use WhatsApp for free international calls.

As a senior citizen my health care is free, and off peak travel is free, otherwise trains, buses, ferries are 50c per trip.

You may not need that much gas ($90), I am guessing with your hand surgery, you may not be able to drive.

            Or I may be wrong

Can you change your tax deduction now for May… save the extra ‘take home pay’…. keep as a buffer or throw in emergency fund to have when needed …

just a thought…can change back, when you go back to work…best wishes

Maybe you could see if there are food pantries in your area that could help you with food.

I hope so. Sounds like you are a good money manager and plan ahead.

Why is your car insurance so high? You may want to shop for a different rate.

That could save you a ton

Car insurance is very high of this is per month. I would call every car insurance company and get a quote.

                    You can switch any time.

I think being conservative regarding your income was the right decision and you also have a buffer with your savings.

You’re so smart to take the time and plan the change in your budget. Well done!

                      Wishing you a textbook recovery!

Will you be using gas as much on disability?
Can you lower your cell phone —at least temporarily-while on disability by switching to Tello, Mint, etc?

Could you pause your savings just until you’re back to work?
                        Best wishes
