I wanted to be vulnerable for a moment to encourage one another. Yesterday I looked at the load of dishes in the dishwasher that had to be put away, the dishes on the mat that had to be put away and the pile of dishes in the sink and felt defeated and a little upset there were more dishes to do.
I took a pause and decided to flip to gratitude before my upset could escalate. I told myself that we have a lot of dishes because we are making the decision to cook more at home.
That is saving us money.
We are preparing more healthy meals and that is helping take care of our bodies. (I am down 18 pounds as of Saturday). We have food at our disposal. Not everyone can say that.
We can choose what we want to eat and when. We have dishes to put our food on.
We have running water to wash the dishes, we have a stove to prepare our meal.
My small kitchen was irritating me at that moment as well because of all the dishes in a small space but I told myself I have a kitchen to cook! Not everyone has a kitchen. It’s small but it’s there for me to use whenever i want.
I washed my dishes by hand and I kept repeating these things. I felt a spirit of gratitude and I did my chore joyfully.
It’s so easy to get consumed with the daily tasks and it’s ok to feel tired and fatigued sometimes of the things we have to do but let us try and not let it consume us and affect our mindset or mood long term.
When we start getting to that place let’s flip it to something good!
Being grateful helps me to be frugal.
Deborah“Thank God For Dirty Dishes”
Mary Arlis Stuber
Thank God for dirty dishes;
They have a tale to tell. While others may go hungry,
We’re eating very well
With home, health, and happiness,
I shouldn’t want to fuss;
By the stack of evidence,NancieI have learned to say “I get to do this!” Instead of I Have to do this. It changes everything.
And whenever I count out my medications, I know for sure that I am absolutely wealthy in any way that matters.
Gratitude turns what we have into enough.
LindaDishes are the worst for me. I have no dishwasher but me. I hate a dirty kitchen, so I do my dishes up every evening.
I’d like to leave till morning but I just won’t
CynthiaI hated emptying the dishwasher. Hated it! One day I decided to do it in stages, working for only 10 minutes.
I set a timer and started.
7 minutes later, it was all done and I didn’t hate this tiny seven minute chore any more
DianeI’ve never had a dishwasher. Even when raising 2 kids. It’s was always thought as a luxury to me. How I always longed for one.
Enjoy you have a really pretty kitchen. Mines old counter 30 yrs old and pink.
I agree though I hate to this day doing dishes but I do like putting them away.
AlisaThat’s a wonderful mindset to have. I enjoy a simple grateful content life using that mindset.
I wash my dishes by hand and just enjoy the view out my window and offer grateful thoughts/prayers for pics of family I keep on my windowsill
SherryI got tired out one day of always having to unload the dishwasher because it was never quite unloaded so that you couldn’t load the dishes into it because it wasn’t unloaded.
I timed how long it took me to unload the dishwasher. It literally was under 3 minutes.
Next time you’re balking and doing that chore just remember what I just said or time it yourself and see how long it takes you to put the dishes away…. Have a wonderful Sunday!
ElizabethThe Jenga Tower of Dishes! Been there, done that. And you’re right, having to do dishes is a sign that you’re saving money and your family is fed.
A blessing in disguise.
JackieThanks for the reminder. We all need to be thankful for what we have, especially if it’s enough.
And if we have abundance we should share with someone who doesn’t have enough.
Terrisometimes I get overwhelmed by this too. I’ve found that if I break it down into small tasks it’s easier.
Throughout the day, every time I go into the kitchen, I’ll put away one rack of dishes from the dishwasher, then the drainer.
Only takes a couple minutes each trip to the kitchen. Then it all gets done.
MargaritaI am 60 yo
And I was able to own a dishwasher only 4 years ago.
I always long for one but was not possible.Since I bought it, l so much enjoy fill ing it up and empty it when dishes are done and cool.
And I also really like to do fishes by hand.
It is only me st home but l do cook often and 3 meals at home or brinf food to work.I use my dishwasher 2 times a weeks.
DonnaI once timed how long it took me to empty the dishwasher. 4 minutes. I would fight& be resentful all day for a 4 minute job. Pointless & silly. 4 minutes per day.
I still wonder why only I see when the oven needs cleaning, but a minute?
LouiseThank you I need this as a disable. I get overwhelmed because my dishes are nit remove from dishes washer and dishes on the dish mate are not out away.
I eat at home and prepare large meal, and freeze them to eat on my worst days.
Maryemptying the DW is sort of a pain in the — , I’ve started going to the dishwasher first to find a bowl or silverware, etc.
then when I am ready and willing to load the dishwasher, there is usually not very many dishes / silverware, etc.
still left in it – sometimes I even just leave the clean dishes in there, add more dirty dishes and let it run.
if I just ran the DW everyday things would probably look better in my kitchen. haven’t got there yet!!!
DiannaLove this! A win-win in so many ways!! I put on my fav music CD and tackle my dishes in my tiny kitchen, tiny sink…count it all JOY!
We have a home, we have food, we have each other!
Abundantly Blessed! Thanks for the reminder…
RoxanneGreat attitude, it does help tremendously. Especially when feeling overwhelmed or stressed. I use the same technique, it does wonders.
Setting my kitchen timer to 20 minutes gets me motivated as well.
I usually do several 20 minute Settings throughout the day
KimThank you! I needed to hear this today.
I have been cooking a lot for years and years because of money and the health of my family.I have my almost 90 yr old mom staying with us for a few days and she always cooked for us so it’s my turn.
AnnaI get it.. putting dishes away is my least favorite chore. I don’t have a dishwasher and I don’t mind washing and rinsing but my space is so small I don’t have room to dry them all which is a frustration.
But Yes, we are all blessed with more than we need and a great reminder to be thankful for all that we do have.
