I’m having to replace my roof and decided (per a frugal post advice) to pay for it using an interest free credit card.
How do I go about finding a credit card offer with an 0% for 12-18 months from a reputable company? P&TY
SerenaDepending on who you get the roof through they might offer 0% financing over so many months.
I just did it with a local company, it’s pretty common.
MelissaBe sure to check with the contractor. Many do not accept credit cards because of the fees they are charged.
CindyYou can compare cards at Experian (website or through the app). I also looked at Motley Fool, and (I think) Bankrate.
MicheleMake sure to pay it off well before time it’s due or you will pay a high interest rate.
Most have a very high rate after free period ends
ShirleyI just got to thinking…. Instead of writing a check for my new roof I should have put it on my card that gives me money back.
Then paid the balance before I had an interest charge.
KristaIt is likely that the roofing company will offer several financing options. Ex: Synchrony Bank has a 0% house repair card that some roofing co’s refer clients to.
The difference between a roofing co’s options and a zero % cc you’d find on Nerd Wallet or elsewhere is that you’ll (in many cases) be charged a one-time 3-5% transaction fee on the whole balance to get the 0% cc offer for a period of time.
But you should not see a transaction fee with a roofing co financing offer.
It’s a big purchase so the fine print is your friend
AshleyLook at the Citi Simplicity or Chase Freedom Flex or Freedom Unlimited. If you have access to Navy Federal, I think they have one.
Maybe Wells Fargo too.
JanelleGoogle 0% APR credit cards. Chase, Capital One, Wells Fargo, American Express, etc all have these available.
AmyHave you had a recent hail or windstorm? insurance may cover it if you had enough damage.
Roofing companies give free estimates
VirginiaAre you on Credit Karma? You can check your score and find the best cards for your score.
Maybe look for a card with a welcome bonus so you can earn some cash when you pay it off?
