Does anyone have tips for getting progressive lens eyeglasses for less? I got the exam done and would love some pretty frames, but are there ways to cut costs without sacrificing quality?

My optometrist did NOT recommend online shopping for these…

For progressive lenses, you really need to be for in person. They have to measure where your sight lines are.

I’ve used Walmart and found price reasonable and staff knowledgeable.

Zenni optical. Of course your eye doctor told you not to order online. They can’t rip you off if you do that.

Make sure they write the pupal distance on your script.

Zenni. I’ve gotten 3 pair: progressive, high-index, transitions, for 1/4 of chain store price.

            Perfect every time.

I warn against Costco. It was super cheap at the time, but expensive later as I both my progressives and my office glasses were not done correctly.

The lenses were really cheap, too.

Costco also did not help me choose a correct style or size for my petite face.

My husband liked Eyemart express on 96 th in front of Wallmart. Inexpensive glasses ready in an hour.

                Excellent eye exam.

Did your optometrist offer you a discount for paying cash? My office does that. Also, we have a lot of budget frames that are beautiful and good mid priced lenses that are still good quality.

Where do you live? Maybe I can help you find a place that has great prices.

The reason the internet isn’t great for glasses is because the measurements for a progressive lens are very important.

The mark up on eye glasses in INSANE! Of course your eye doctor didn’t recommend shopping online. I’ve bought progressive lenses online several times and they were fine.

Check for a 30 day period that if you don’t like the glasses for any reason you can get a refund.

I’ve used this once. Good luck!

I wear progressives and have been getting them from Zenni for years without incident. They are a fraction of the cost from eye glass store.

I get progressive lens with transitions and could buy multiple pairs for the cost of getting one pair from glasses brick and mortar.

I have needed glasses for most of my life and take my vision very seriously.

I have never had a bad zenni experience.

Zenni is awesome. I love everything I’ve ever purchased from there.

I got a spare pair of progressives online from Zenni, and they are actually better in function and fit than the pair I got from the optometrist’s office at 4 times the price.

A little known secret: many optometrists get the glasses they sell you from Zenni.

Some mark up by hundreds of dollars.

I get all mine from zenni. My optometrist had nothing bad to say.

Yes. I’ve had progressive lenses for 16 years now. Initially they were EXPENSIVE! Ridiculously expensive. Over the years I’ve tried Walmart, America’s Best, private opticians, Zenni Optical, and was pretty happy with all of them except Zenni.

In their defense, I had no idea how to choose the correct size of frames for my face, so they were all uncomfortably too small.

Last year I found Lensmart online and I love, love, love the glasses I got. Three pairs of progressive lens glasses (one pair is sunglasses) for about $300.

You do have to get your exact prescription including PD (pupillary distance) and measure your most comfortable pair of eyeglasses to get an idea of the size you’re looking for.

Also make sure the size of the lenses in the glasses you choose are “tall” enough to give you a good spread of the progressive lens.

They do take some getting used to, so don’t freak out the first time you put them on. Give yourself some time to get used to them.

Another vote for Costco. They actually measure the frames and where your eye lines up on it which is important for progressives.

                                    They are very reasonable

My optometrist likewise could not recommend online for my progressives.

However, his suggestion of Costco was right on! I got progressives, new frames, with transitions lenses for 1/4th (roughly $200) what ONE pair cost (over $800) at my former optician’s office!

These are well made, and fully supported by the very delightful staff at our Costco. Highly recommend!

I doubt most optometrists would recommend buying online because it would really cut into their profits.

I’ve been buying my progressives from Zenni and at the same time they cut slip on sunglass and yellow driving ones to fit the frame for $4.

I bought 2 pair of progressive glasses for $200 this last time.

I already had the pupillary distance measured at the optometrist and there has been not a single problem over the years.

We just got ours at Sam’s, I don’t know if they were the cheapest but they were cheaper than getting them at the eye Doctors place.

We decided against doing online because 62% of people ordering have problems.

I’ve been wearing progressive lenses for many years and buying glasses at Zenni.

Got my newest glasses 3 weeks ago for $56 and I have a pretty strong prescription.
