Trying to plan ahead as there is a real possibility that my employer will go on strike. I can collect employment income while being off but that will only cover 65% of my income.

I could potentially be out of work for months.

Looking for all ideas of how to best prepare for this very real potential due to violence, safety issues and low pay in our job.

Any ideas for extra income or ways to cut back?

Do they pay strike pay?? My Union is currently preparing to take a strike vote. We get paid to strike.

In my experience strikes are over pretty quickly.

        Best Wishes!!!

Cutting back is easy enough, stop paying for anything you don’t absolutely need. I don’t know for sure but are you allowed to be on unemployment and have a job for extra income?

I honestly have no idea what the rules are for strikes, maybe get the info on that before looking for alternatives.

Strikes do usually end pretty quickly, my former workplace has done them in the past..

Found eating vegan is cheapest, lots of lentils, rice, pinto beans, veggie soups, burritos, and grains.

I picked up a little side job to supplement as well.

Try to build an emergency fund of 3-6 months of expenses. Review all spending and track it to see what you can cut.

Eating at home and meal prep will save a lot of money. Shopping at a low cost store will also help save.

Selling what you don’t need will also bring in cash.

I’d pick up a side gig or a second job now if possible. Stack that money . Also prepare a bare bones budget and implement it now until your concerns are over.

Don’t buy anything and take inventory of what you have.

I was laid off a couple years ago and that’s what I did .
