Silver question: we inherited a lot of sterling silver and silver plate in the form of silverware and tea services, etc. What are our options?

Seems as if antique dealers aren’t interested.

Can we sell it to someone who will melt it down? I’ve no idea so any info would be greatly appreciated. Seems as if price of silver is up right now?

The silver is in Melbourne, FL if that helps.

Silver plate is just that. A thin silver coating so there would be no value in melting it down.

Things like silver candlesticks are not solid silver – again a silver coating over some type of solid core.

We did have a few small solid silver pieces we sold at “we buy gold and silver” place.

We sold all the other stuff we had just at a regular ol’ garage sale because as you said no one really wants it.

Do a search for Midwest Refineries in Michigan, as this is a very reputable company that takes silver and gold.

Used by lots and lots of eBay sellers. Avoid the “we buy gold” middleman.

Facebook marketplace? It’s true that people nowadays value experiences over stuff.

              The market has collapsed.

When we downsized to become semi-nomadic, we sold that stuff on eBay. Brides were buying that kind of stuff for wedding decorations, bridal party gifts, or to buy instead of renting.

You can try online auctions in your area. They photograph and list the items and give you a percentage of the sale.
