I’d like to get started with the rebate apps where you scan all of your receipts for cash. How does this work? I have absolutely no cash apps, pay pal, Venmo… none of those things.
Should I use a separate bank account to link with these apps for pay outs?
I could never link my main bank account with anything on line. I do have a checking account that I could use for this type of thing… and can you scan the same receipt with multiple apps?
Teach me about this like I’m in 3rd grade!
MaryI do fetch and upside. Fetch I can scan any receipt in within 14 days of purchase. I scan them same day or the next. You get extra points for whatever they have listed for bonus points.
Watch what they have listed for bonus points and only if you use those items buy them if you need them or have extra money to buy them before you need them.
Many of the items listed for bonus points we do not use and I am not paying more for a name brand item just to get extra points.
If I do use that item I buy it and get the bonus points. I wait until I get 28,000 points and then redeem for a $25 Amazon gift card.
They send me an email a few days after redeeming the points and I immediately add it to my Amazon gift card I use on Amazon.
Off topic here, but I only use my Amazon gift card to purchase things on Amazon. I reload as needed using a credit card. This way it helps to cut down on credit card fraud for me.
It takes a while to get to 28,000 points, but I have redeemed 2 of the $25 Amazon cards. And $50 is better than no money. I don’t link anything to fetch as I feel that is a good way to get hacked.
Upside I use at specific gas stations that they have the money back deal with. You have to use a credit card to buy the gas, but I do that anyway.
You can also use it at specific grocery stores and restaurants to get a percentage back.
The only grocery store in my area is Schnucks, and I seldom shop there because it’s usually more expensive. The receipts must be uploaded to upside within 3 hours or you lose the discount.
I have redeemed about $150 to my PayPal account. Took about 2 years, but it’s money I would not have if I had done nothing.
TheresaConnie.., I hope you won’t mind me asking this question, since I am unfamiliar with rebate apps, also.
My question is: Are there any negatives to using these rebate apps?
WendyYes, you can scan the same receipts on different apps. I use Ibotta and Fetch. Ibotta is for specific items and you get money back whereas Fetch takes receipts from anywhere i.e.
grocery stores, restaurants, department stores, fast food etc. you get 25 pts per receipt on fetch.
If you buy certain items you get extra points. Once you have a certain number of points you can redeem for electronic gift cards.
There are a lot to choose from. Hope this helps.
BethI have Fetch and Frisbee. I scan my receipts into both and collect gift cards.
KarenI use Ibotta. I did not bother setting up a separate email account and have never had a problem. You can opt to get e gift cards so, you don’t need a paypal or venmo account.
I usually get a Starbucks or Amazon gift card that I the load to my account.
There are tons of options for different types of gifts cards.
Ibotta link automatically to my Walmart and Sprouts account, so I don’t have to take a picture of the receipt for those stores.
DebbieFirst set up a separate email account. Go to your phone App Store and search for rebate apps. Write the names down and search how to on You tube.
There are several apps to choose from some are good some not so much. All apps want email address. I did not set up a separate email for this and I wish I had.
I started with a lot of apps and the learning curve took awhile. Some are very date specific, and what receipts they take. But I think it’s worth it.
The most time consuming one isNCP. They want each product scanned. You tube is your friend as far as directions. Each app also has help page.
Do receipts same day as purchase is a help also.
I choose Amazon gift cards because. There is no fee, do not expire and almost everything can be found there hope this helps.
AprilI have never had any problems and I cash out onto gift cards yes, they are digital I mostly get Amazon ones none of mine are connected to any bank
As for using them some you scroll through and mark things you normally purchase to get $ rebates other ones you scan receipts and just get points that add up to a amount you cash in account hope this answers some of your questions
MindyRegarding the question about negatives about these apps: 1) I did four or five of the apps at the same time and found it overwhelming.
Now I just do Fetch.
2) I find I have to be in the mood to scan the receips. As a result, they pile up.
I now have a place for the receipts but still piling up. On the plus side, I just get Amazon gift cards at 12K points and dump them into my account.
As another person mentioned, go to YouTube to watch its done.
