I was forced to early retire after a stage 4 cancer diagnosis 6+ yrs ago at 44. There’s no cure for my kind and I need very costly targeted therapy drug to survive.

Thanks to Medicaid I can get treatment for free now. I live on some rental income from an inherited home (co-owned with siblings) and some lifetime saving.

With the current administration, I’m stressed about losing the benefits at some point and will need to get private insurance (via Obamacare if that still exists!).

I’m eager to generate more wealth without making too much to get myself disqualified ($19k/year adj gross income is the limit). The state I’m in does not limit assets for Medicaid tho.

I could really use your collective brilliant minds for some ideas to generate wealth that I could tap into when needed! Either through investment or hard labor (under radar)

Any ideas are much appreciated and blessings to you

Can you set up an irrevocable trust? Try to talk to someone who specializes in elder law.

What skill and abilities can you use at the moment?

If you were forced out of work, could you get on social security disability?

Medicare doesn’t have an income limit.

I don’t know if all restaurants are still allowing servers to keep cash tips though I know so many people pay with credit cards but she was a server and training bartender at one point and that was her second job because especially during football season she’d make a ton of under the table money.

Someone mentioned tutoring, yard work (people pay at least $50 or more for lawn mowing).

We had someone coming every other week, and he was done within a half hour because he had a riding lawnmower.

We have decent size yard. If you are artsy or creative you can sell things on Etsy, Facebook marketplace or at farmers markets.

Also, if it’s money that you are earning “ under the table”, or off the books…

I’m assuming that you could give some of that cash to your siblings to hold for you.

Could you maybe ask the hospital or care provider if they have any low income assistance?

Or if volunteering at the facility could lower your medical bills?

Obamacare is easier to manipulate because it is based purely on income. There are plenty of ways to build wealth without it showing up on your tax return.

Is Medicaid asset limited in your state?

Start a business to pick up few kids after school near your home then watch over them doing their homework

You can get a special needs trust. There’s different types and really should seek an attorney for best option for your situation.

My son has a chronic condition and my parents had to do something similar.

I’m not too familiar with this particular area, I understand there is now a new type of trust or savings account to where you can accumulate/save up monies and not have them count against your wealth limit or income limit as far as receiving state or federal aid.

I do have some relatives who have special needs; but I don’t communicate with them much at all, so I don’t know if they’re able to take advantage of that… But it’s certainly something I would look into.

I’m assuming there’s some folks on here would be able to give you some pointers.
