Has anyone ever used a functional medicine doctor? I’ve been having issues with fatigue for years now, off and on. Any regular doctor I tell can’t help me…my blood work comes back normal.

I am on the verge of booking an appointment with a F M doctor…but they are very expensive. Can’t use insurance..and it’s $600 for the initial consultation…would probably be an 8-10k investment in my health.

I’m willing to do it if it will help me. Would love some advice! Thanks so much!

Quality of life is one of the most important things you can have. I would spend the money if it were me.

I am not saying I wouldn’t exhaust all of my options provided by my insurance but after having done my research and this treatment is what is left on the table, then I would do it.

        Good luck!!!!

I have not seen functional medicine but they would definitely look deeper than your everyday primary provider.

I personally have worked with a naturpath for several years and found it worth every penny.

If you have an HSA, they will give you a super bill so you can use your HSA.

Are you sure there are no functional doctors in-network with your health insurance?

It’s becoming more & more common for them to accept insurance.

I know this doesn’t address your question, but have they checked your thyroid levels (TSH)? My son and I were just diagnosed with Hypothyroidism (and him with Hashimoto’s disease as well).

It’s not nearly as common in men as it is in women, so I wonder if they perhaps skipped that aspect (thyroid check) in your blood panel.

Fatigue is known as a symptom of thyroid issues.

Yes, and 100% worth it. You aren’t committed but can take your test results with you so there is no risk.

I’d be curious how a FM doctor differs from a Naturopath. Supplements, acupuncture, detoxifying, no sugar etc., turned my health around.

I have an ND that has helped me. Depending on what state you are in you can look one of those.

Also depending on your state some take insurance.

There’s no guarantee that a functional medicine doctor will be able to give you answers, unfortunately.

I didn’t find seeing one to be helpful.

Have you tried the panel of tests through Function Health dot com? Both my husband and I started that in November. For $499 per year per person, you get a large panel of tests twice per year at a Quest diagnostics lab.

They give you results and interpretations.

We’ve both been able to take action on our results without a physician.

Also, consider getting a CGM from Abbott (Lingo) or Dexcom (Stelo) without prescription and directly from the manufacture.

This will run you about $90 for four weeks of monitoring and results.
