Been working towards F.I.R.E and this week my company made me redundant. There was all the usual talk of what a hard decision it was and they were truly sorry.
They didn’t know of course that their payment finished building my 3 year cash bridge to when I can access my pension tax free in Australia.
To me R.E will mean Recreational Employment – I’ll find a passion role and enjoy never having to do presentations to boards or co-workers again.
I do swing from being delighted to shitting myself – 30 years in one company, working across the world has been fun but now it’s time for the next chapter.
JulieRecreational employment is a fascinating concept. I’ve also heard it called the ‘work optional’ stage.
I like these *so* much more than just ‘retirement,’ somehow.
‘Retirement’ implies you are leaving something but doesn’t address the future. Love it.
Good for you!
DeborahYou will enjoy it! I got the pink slip 35 years in at age 54. There is life after corporate.
I diversified my portfolio and started a side business and it’s all good 13 years and counting!
BillyTime to relax, refuel and find your next purpose. You are talented and have alot of fuel left in the tank.
Go find your next big thing.
The Lord says it’s your time to shine the next light in your life.
GottliebThat happened to me 2 yrs ago after 26yrs w the same employer. That is the perfect sentiment of being “delighted to shitting one’s self”
I ended up returning for more $, restored tenure and a comfortable pkg.
hoping to make it to 30yrs and can peace out when I want and have work be optional.
Best of luck!
