Feeling unmotivated to cook for you and/or your family? Get on DoorDash pretend to order all the food, stare at the total in disbelief, then get your booty in the kitchen and make that food!
Pocket that $40-$60 for groceries or literally anything else!
I needed that motivation this morning
MicheleI’ve never used door dash . Throwing money away. How hard is it too throw something in oven or crockpot for a homecooked meal with left overs for lunch next day.
SelenaI’m a bit afraid to order ANY food delivery these days. I’ve seen tooooo many videos showing how drivers mess with it on the way to your house.
I just don’t wanna take the chance.
ChristinaAs a disabled person, I find it easier and cheaper to buy premade foods that easy to heat n eat. We shop at Costco and I’ll buy things that are healthy and that I can get several meals for myself.
I’m still streamlining my meals and shopping. I eat Mediterranean/vegetarian… moving towards less meat, more whole grains, vegetables, beans.
I used to eat low carb/high fat to lose weight but found it was too difficult to stick to. And meat is just expensive.
Beans, vegetables, and whole grains are cheaper and filling.
JulieI learned that Door Dash and other delivery services charge the restaurant AND the buyer a percentage of the bill.
If you must do takeout, call the restaurant and go pick it up.
A lot of small businesses struggle because of these fees.
AllisonI do do this by the time I get to the checkout I’m like ya no I’m good I’ll get up and make something
JonIt just boggles my mind that people will order DoorDash. Thinking about the extra cost, how long it sits there waiting to get picked up, how long it takes to get delivered, and you just paid a lot more money for very cold food.
MelissaI struggle with the $3-$4 pizza delivery fee that does not go to the driver.
The store keeps it.
NadineLol when I do an order-in night it’s $100 basically no matter what we order
And I hate cooking so much and have such limited time that I’ll do it and accept the cost. Rarely, but I will.
Besides that, it’s kits, platters, pre-made stuff and when I cook I do if batches to have left over.
SallyI do something similar. I have a little credit card debt, maybe 2k. If I go online to shop and I want to order a widget from Amazon I take a moment to pause.
I try to convince myself that I don’t need this $10 widget.
Then I will take the $10 I was going to spend on the widget and pay that to my credit card debt
LenaI do that with Instacart when I don’t feel like going out shopping.
I pay less for the groceries, no service charge and I can tip myself.RachelIt’s wild! I order Doordash once in a great while if I’m not home and if they run promotions but it’s crazy.
I’ve deleted the apps because the temptation is too much
KendallI delivered for DoorDash during Covid. So grateful that the company exists.
But I have yet to order using DD because it’s far too expensive for us.
Nolawhen me and my partner were considering a freezer I decided to figure out how much it would save if it enabled us (really her) to eat at home instead of getting stuff on door dash.
on this logic our freezer pays for itself almost immediately.
I was shookMiriamYes!! I tried it once because we had a gift card. I had to go “get” the door dasher because she got lost and my order was wrong, the food was cold, it was a disaster!! Never again!
JoyceI had an emergency free Domino pizza owed to me. When I went to order it, I had to have a minimum order of $15.
By the time the delivery charge & sales tax was added it was over $25, not counting the tip to the driver.
I made a sandwich with tomato soup instead.
KimRarely do I order Doordash, every time I think about buying something or ordering meals I look at what it cost vs what I make an hour to buy that.
Keeps it in perspective for me.
LeahWe are two people – honestly we can eat out cheaper than I can cook in ( not all meals but lots of).
We take advantage of all the deals – 1 example we get a shrimp appetizer for $6 – share a $15 prime rib – we even end up with left overs.
I leave a $10 tip – I can’t cook us steak for that little. I bought a rib eye a few days ago – it was $18.99 lb.
KimmerI about choked when my sister told me she spent over 10k on door dash last year.
When she started with excuses, I reminded her she owns a crockpot, air fryer, instapot, toaster oven, microwave and standard kitchen stove.
MaureenI wanted to pick up something to eat on the way home from work. Online searching, 3 restaurants later I have up.
Prices are way too expensive these days so I went home and I ate chips.
