Hi all, what should I do? I bought my Tesla model 3 in cash $66k in 2020. I want to sell my car when tariffs increase because I’m sure we’re going to see what we saw in 2020 again.
The car prices are set going to shoot up. So if I wait for the tariffs to increase and get implemented, I will probably be able to get half my money back and buy a cheaper car.
My insurance is $2k a year and $800 registration.
AlexAre people genuinely selling their Teslas because of politics?
KristallI have a 2018. We’re not selling. It doesn’t make financial sense since it’s paid off. Maybe since I’m in southern CA, where every third car is a Tesla I’m not feeling the pressure or seeing/hearing of any incidents of vandalism.
I did put a bumper sticker to clearly show that just because I drive the car does not equate to me supporting him.
I even drove it through the middle of a massive protest at SpaceX this weekend; and none of the protesters even batted an eye.
JenniferI was watching video on tiktok of people putting other decals on their Tesla’s like Honda Accord Audi A3 etc to downplay they’re driving a Tesla
LouiseIf you are really serious about getting rid of your Tesla, even if you take a bath, then buy a car quickly, asap. You can finance and then pay it off later if needed.
Then sell the Tesla when the used car market goes up.
That might raise the price of the Tesla too, although it’s also possible Tesla specifically will remain undesirable.
SteveNot a bad plan. I have two friends who can’t wait get rid of their Tesla Y’s but their are upside down on their loans.
Maybe waiting till tariffs increase the car prices by 15-25% is a good idea.
SarahThe kind of people who want and can afford to purchase electric vehicles are not often the same kind of people who would choose to support Tesla at this point in time imo.
And on the converse, the type of people who would wish to support Tesla are not often the type of people who can afford to or would choose to purchase an electric vehicle in the first place.
Not saying never, just saying not often. Not often enough to float a worldwide brand, anyway.
It’s a sinking ship, that deserves to sink, and I’d get off it ASAP.
BrandonYou think house and car prices go up during a recession?
Cut your lossesKennethTeslas aren’t selling. Maybe tariffs will help them since they are made in America.
JenI’m not sure there will be a huge demand for teslas, especially due to tariffs
SuzIf it was anything but a tesla you might be right.
He changes his mind so fast on tariffs day to day when he realises he has messed up, there probably wouldn’t be time for the market to change that much.PriscillaDon’t do it, if the market does increase, your cheaper car will cost a lot more. It won’t be worth it….
The value on your Tesla is also likely not there and rates are higher than a couple of years ago and the auto market is still inflated.
Tariffs will skyrocket prices so you’ll be stuck with something else you’ll be unhappy about.
Best of luck
SidTesla’s brand is tarnished at the moment. This could be a losing proposition.
JennIt’s a tesla. I think the market is getting flooded with them now. Good luck.
KekeMy friend/peer got rid of her Tesla last week, and another friend just told me he is getting rid of his this week
JillianEveryone I know is trying to get rid of their Tesla. You’re probably underwater on it.
KristopherAuto market is bad right now, probably won’t help much. All brands are selling slow now.
BethanySell it and get out. Sticker price on my 2022 X was $145,000 and Carvana offered me 45k.
Sold it privately for 53.
JasonTesla owners and stock holders should form a class action legal case against Musk for devaluing their investment in his company and products.
If I could strap him to one of his beloved rockets and send him off to Mars right now, I would…..sans oxygen!
