I have a bunch of tiny honey crisp apples from Trader Joe’s. But they’re really bitter.
Anyone have ideas what to do with them?
I’m not much of a baker but if that’s the way to use em, I can try
SusanPeel and chunk
Toss in flour, sugar and cinnamon. Put in baking dishes. Cut butter in oatmeal, sugar and cinnamon.Place on top for a apple crisp. Bake at 350 until apples are tender and crisp is golden.
Serve with whipped cream or ice cream, or pour over half and half cream
LoisTrader Joe’s has a no ask return policy. In fact, you can just tell them and they will give you a refund.. or bring the receipt.
Apples shouldn’t be bitter.
TamiWhen I have apples I don’t care for just eating as is I chop them up and add to oatmeal.
Once I add my cranberry and cinnamon sugar they blend right in.
KatieSimmer pot! Throw in some cinnamon and rosemary and oranges if you have them.
Your house will smell so good
TeresaAre they bitter or sour? Apples shouldnt be bitter but could be sour if under ripe.
There are a lot of good suggestions here
ErikThat’s weird. Honeycrisp apples aren’t supposed to be bitter, they’re supposed to be sweet and juicy.
Are you sure they’re not a different variety?
BrendaDice and sauté with a bit of butter, sugar and cinnamon. Great as a side, on pancakes or ice cream.
MelissaDice the add a bit of water or juice. Add sugar and cinnamon to taste. Bring to a boil the simmer stirring frequently. Once the apples are soft you can mash them.
I like a warm chunky apple sauce.
Eat as is, on oatmeal, pancakes or waffles, on top of ice cream, ect. You can freeze leftovers.
DianeSweet ingredients like sugar, honey, fruit juices and maple syrup will help balance bitterness.
Most any dish can also be balanced with a touch of a sour ingredient like lemon or vinegar.
JeanieDo you regularly shop at Trader Joes? You can return them.
