Can anyone tell me what causes white spots on laundry from the washer?
I use a small amt of Tide liquid in warm water

I’ve noticed that sometimes, after running a load of laundry, some clothes come out with white spots or residue. It happens with both dark and light fabrics, and I’m not sure what’s causing it.

Could it be detergent buildup, fabric softener issues, hard water, or something else?

I use a standard washing machine and follow normal washing routines, but these spots appear occasionally.

Has anyone else experienced this? What are the most common causes, and how can I prevent or fix it?

Any advice or personal experiences would be really helpful!

I have tried almost all of these suggestions and none worked except washing everything on bulk. I found the little pellets that I put in to make them smell better was causing it also.

I’d try cleaning the washer. Also, the hose may be clogged up and this is the dirt and residue that is not being rinsed away.

Wonder if your washer isn’t draining the water fast enough causing it to kinda back up in the drum.

I was experiencing a lot of residue left and when I googled it said the drain thingy can get plugged

Use bedding or deep water cycle after you clean your washer. Could be residue build up.

I’ve watched videos where they have taken the drum out of washing machines and you would not believe the buildup that is underneath them.

It’s absolutely disgusting.

Maybe washer overloaded and not enough room for the washer to agitate. Don’t know if you washed in cold and used powder soap.

It might have not dissolved.

That is just some ideas.

Thank you! I’ve fought with the same issue for years, even with a brand new washer!! I’ve tried powder and liquid, smaller amounts of soap, etc, and nothing works!

Recently I switched to laundry detergent strips (Tru Earth), and it seems to be better.

But I’m definitely going to try the setting that uses more water, now that I’ve seen all the recommendations.

Tide (or any regular laundry detergent) Use an enzymatic laundry detergent and it will stop happening. I use one from Sam’s and I never have this problem anymore.

There is a plug filter thingy at the bottom of some newer units which needs to be cleaned

Washing machines is too efficient. Doesn’t use a lot of water which sucks because it ends up not cleaning the clothes

Too many clothes in there at at time & they can’t agitate correctly.

THat is what happened to my clothes when I bought the high efficiency no agitator washers that the government tried to force down our throats. The issue is WATER.

I started using the heavy bulky cycle on my washer that uses more water than the regular settings.

Problem was solved after 2 months of wanting to toss the washer and look for an older used one.

It was insane, I started with very little soap and it still did it. I then took out the ok clothes put the rest back in and did another rinse, still there.

I then put them back in for a full wash cycle no soap still there. It all came down to the water. I never have a problem any more with it.

LOL other when my husband leaves a tissue in his pocket but that is another issue to resolve.

I had same issue. Someone said to put the washer setting on bulky for everything.

It adds more water for bulky and that took care of the problem for me.

I had this happen too. Might be too much detergent and not enough water.

I started using less and setting on deep water loads

Tissue forgotten in your pocket, maybe dryer needs cleaned out vent and check under drum

I have put a cup.of vinegar in my washer, and run a regular cycle with hot water to clean mine.

I have seen that before when the washer is not doing its job of extracting the water.

Do you also use oxiclean by any chance?
It could be something else but it looks like what happens to me when the oxiclean doesn’t fully dissolve

Clean the filter and the agitator of the machine. Run a load with vinegar. Also clean your dryer.

sometimes it just builds up.

Ditch the liquid detergents. The liquid detergent does not suspend dirt and oils in the water like a powder will, And it gets re-deposited on the clothes.

The newer washers do not use much water at all so you get this detergent residue-very aggravating. Happens to me frequently
