My coastFIRE plan is to have my homes paid off and producing passive income that covers basic living expenses and health insurance.
Then “fun” money will come from working 3-6 month contract or temp jobs and the rest of the year not working.
I’m in IT right now, and currently could find contract and temp work in my field fairly easily. But I figure one day my job may not exist due to AI, so I’d like a backup plan, something entry level that will probably always have demand and also not be lost due to AI.
I was thinking like vet tech (could plan to go a local technical college to get cert). What other entry level type jobs might there be?
Not healthcare because human bodily fluids gross me out.
CharlieKeep working your current job and investing until your passive income exceeds your expected living and fun expenses by 8%.
Then you can safely live off that and continue to build wealth while retired rather than going back to school or working odd jobs or seasonal employment to be able to have fun.
DavidPets have all the same fluids, but more to the point: Seasonal employment.
This doesn’t have to be holiday retail – it could mean working for a boutique bakery; working hospitality or operations jobs at a ski resort; working summers at an amusement park or seasonal attraction; working as a camp councilor, etc.
Many of these jobs come with housing and you may be able to rent out your primary residence.
EtienneI’m in a similar situation. I even hired a career coach. Physical therapist assistant is solid and no fluids for the most part.
X-ray tech and the other similar fields would make sense given a tech background.
bill do up to 2 years at a local community college
MadelineJust curious…..what is the source of your passive income?
