Hi all – I work as an unlicensed social worker for a local government making $100k/yr. Bottom line – i’m super burned out.

Looking for any alternative job suggestions making the same ballpark pay.

My experience doesn’t transfer as I’m unlicensed and worked my way up, instead of obtaining a degree (i have an associates).

Im literally open to anything, however. Bonus if it’s not desk based as my hands are getting older and tired of typing nonstop!

Depending on your pension, look into transferring into a local school district. Student support, school secretary, etc.

Still desk jobs, but less non-stop typing.

My sense is that the best way to make money as a social worker (assuming you’re in the US) is to get an MSW, become an LCSW, and do private practice.

My husband went this route and makes well into the six figures.

If you don’t want to do more school, your options will likely be more limited.

Local govt are usually a slam dunk for getting internal transfers to other departments. Like billing, scheduling, recruiting, etc.

Foster care has workers that basically drive around all day- picking up kids from situations, supervising visits, etc.

not sure if a formal license is needed but again if it’s associated with your current govt job it may just be a transfer.

I’ve worked with a lot of social workers as a financial educator and have not seen many six figure salaries so good for you!

How close are you to retirement (it sounds like you’ve been working a while)?

Is emotional burnout a factor at all?

All health insurers are hiring Community Health Workers but the pay is not as good as that.

I work for the Big One and all work is remote.

                  So, it’s a trade off.

You have got years of experience find a school that will let you use that in a degree.

I was a social worker for a decade, I’m getting an accounting degree to save myself. The business part is really easy if you’ve done social work.

Having worked for govt already gets your foot in the door for many more govt positions…Auditing is easy if you’ve done any billing.

Burnt out is an understatement since 2020…
