It differs from state to state but it is all due to the Affordable Care Act. As a self employed family we have used it.

The insurance we got was so much better than what we were paying 3 times more for when we were privately insured.

The next administration is looking to cut funding to this so definitely have a plan B.

Every state has their own marketplace for insurance. From what I e seen in the 3 states where I’ve lived, the policies are private insurance plans with subsidies based on your income to lower the costs.

You pick which plan fits your needs based on insurance usage and cost. The lower the income the higher the subsidy amount.

All have had high deductibles. I usually pick a plan where basic office visits are not subject to the deductible.

I have had a really good experience with Marketplace insurance. I have had it for 5 years and have had two knee replacements done.

The coverage was very good. It won’t pay as well as Medicaid but you have more options for doctors, etc.

I had a Christian Care plan prior and it was okay but more expensive and a lot more work if I had a claim.

Get on and look up what your state offers. You should still get a low income policy.

Do your homework in your state and you will find something.

Christian stuff I don’t recommend basically you pay the bills then submit and get a portion back.

We are on marketplace its not great but a lot better than the none we would otherhave.

With some of the marketplace plans, the “subsidy” reduces the premium and the deductible, etc…. You should be able to sign on, enter your information and get an idea.

You’re not making a commitment until the last step, so go see.

You can also call them to ask questions.

I did the ACA after I got laid off & only paid $74/mo! It is income based though.

Can you husband ask for his income to be decreased to just under the income line? Sounds strange but would it save you a lot of money in the long run?

Purchase a cheap phone from Walmart. Once you go onto marketplace they will call you constantly! You can use that number and keep your phone free from salespeople.

I’ve been on marketplace for a couple years and I haven’t had any real problems except I’m in an HMO plan which is not my favorite.
