Hey! Income $345k year, live in Denver. Plan to build a house then start saving as much as possible after that.
We Max our 401k’s company match 10% and 5%, one salary, one could work OT, where do we put the money we save to build up?
BryonI would suggest beginning to max out your Roth 401k and Roth IRA each year. Essentially, go well beyond just hitting the 10% match.
If you have a long runway before retirement, I like to invest aggressively in the market only with no bonds and in many index funds like the S&P 500, NASDAQ, large cap, mid cap, etc.
at the end of the day though, it really depends on your risk tolerance and time horizon.
There is risk in anything you do but for me, I am heavy in the market index funds and maxed out all available retirement account options while working.
Furthermore, I maxed out my HSA account each year for numerous years as well and did not use it.
Just let it grow for future use as it is invested and growing over time.
RobertKeep 6 months for emergency fund. The rest, drop it into an IUL.
Read: “The Volatility Shield”EricaDepends on the time-frame you will use it in. I’m not sure why people are suggesting investing if you are saving to build a house because you need that money to be secure and liquid.
If you are going to use it within a few years, seems like it should be in a high-yield savings account.
Any money you don’t need for the house, yeah, put it in investments after funding your emergency fund.
DrewI opened a Vanguard brokerage account and put the bulk into VOO and VTI.
I invest in other stocks too but only I recommend those two to others as with individual stocks there are so many factors to consider and those factors can really change at any time.
