We have just discovered that Wells Fargo won’t allow withdrawal of larger sums unless we physically go to a branch… which is 2.5 hours from us currently.
We need a new bank (before I start keeping all my cash in a safe so I can at least access it when needed).
I’m hoping someone might have a recommendation of a bank that will allow us to withdraw larger sums no matter where we are in the US.
I think this would require agreements with other banks as I thought Wells Fargo had the most location options when we switched, but clearly this is not good enough.
Anyone have a bank that actually allows access to your money?
KelvinAsk if they have a courier service. We had a client request a rather large sum this way.
However, there was a fee.
RochelleIs there a checking account attached to your account? Or a debit card?
You can transfer money to your local bank and withdraw it from there
JulieCan you do an ACH or a wire transfer? This doesn’t sound right. I transfer money all the time back and forth to my investment accounts.
If you mean cash withdraws, that would make sense to not allow any withdraws without verifying your identify physically.
Too much fraud these days.
Open an account at a local bank and just electronically transfer the money as you need it for withdraw.
ShawnMy credit union has shared branching with locations nationwide. Something like that might work.
There aren’t branches everywhere but pretty good.
JanayNeed more context:Did they say why? Was there some type of fraud attempt on your account that caused them to want to identify you properly?
Did they shut down online transfers, ach, and wire abilities? Will they not honor checks cut from the account?
I work for a CU as a Compliance officer.
The ONLY time we are preventing any access is if it’s court ordered or we cannot properly identify you.
ScottI’ve never had that issue with Bank of America. Every bank has extra security steps when it comes to unusual transactions but I’ve never had to physically go into a branch.
I’d give them a try.
