My husband and I are over the road truck drivers. For 23 years we have made 49-52 trips a year to California ( worked out tails off).
As of today I can officially say we are debt free. We have paid off our home and 2 vehicles. No credit card debt.
We cook food at home and take it with us on the road. I can food to take on the truck. I make our coffee in the truck.
Huge savings from just doing those things. On our 2 days off at home we cook and eat at home.
We buy our groceries during sale at local grocery stores and we use Sam’s club and us foods chef store.
Sometimes we find a good price on flats of berries and bags of oranges in California at roadside stands.
JeanWe all need to thank a truck driver. Everything we use and eat are brought to us by truck. Thank both of you.
It’s a hard job.
NaomiAmazing & great job!
What meals do you make for on the road? My husband drives a truck and I’d love some lunch ideas!
LisaAwesome and thank you for what you do. My husband was a long haul trucker for years before we moved home to Hawaii.
I appreciate what you do to get our goods to us
SusanI have a friend who did that with her husband for nearly 2 decades, before their son was born.
Like you and your husband, they lived frugally, and were able to pay everything off.
You’re doing a great job! Thank you for all you do!
AngieWe make a game out of how much money we do NOT spend on the road.
VickiCongratulations!!!! My Mom was an trucker. I have a lot of respect for truck drivers!
LisaImpressive, congrats! Tell em how it’s done, honey…hard work and sacrifice.
GloriaNothing better than fruit from California. I did travel Nursing and drove job to job and State to State about every 6 months. For years.
I hated eating the crap along the highway. For me the fast food sucks.
I would’ve hated doing it every day. But the money is good. You can make 3 to 4 times as much as a regular Nurse makes.
Sometimes our yearly wages was far above the Doctors wage.
