Has anyone tried building an entire meal plan using only legumes and starch as staples? With the other food groups mixed in, of course.

Depending on beans and rice seems to be the most frugal option for me at this point, but I’d like to change it up and keep it interesting.

Absolutely. And it is certainly the most frugal style of eating, especially if you keep it simple. However, be prepared for people to criticize you.

You will get false claims of not being able to get enough protein and calcium.

Lots of recipes out there, and lots of knowledgeable help. Look for vegan and vegetarian groups.

Look at Indian, Mexican, Italian recipes and other traditional cuisines that use beans and rice and lot.

Try beans, corn and rice. The corn adds crunch and sweetness.

Beans (mainly Pinto or Black Eye Peas) and Peanut butter on wheat bread are my staples.

              And Black Tea to drink

Bean tacos and burritos. Look up some creole recipes for red beans and rice. Dirty rice is delicious. And you wouldn’t need much meat.

Same with red beans and rice. Some people make black bean burgers.

Also bean and veggie salad. Different seasonings will be key.
