Does anyone use a water service instead of buying bottled water? We recently got one at work and it seems like an ok deal, the water is super hard where I live and I use bottled water/filtered even for ice.
I’m wondering if a water service is a better long-term solution in terms of cost, convenience, and water quality.
If you’ve used a water service, what’s your experience? Is it worth the switch? Any recommendations on good providers?
Would love to hear your thoughts!
MaryWe use one for work. Ours is $6 a month for the cooler. Then $8 for each bottle of water. Plus, they charged us a bottle fee when we first got it.
It may be cheaper for you to buy your own cooler and then buy a few bottles from Walmart or somewhere and filling at the store. The 5 gallon bottles are heavy.
I can barely put them in the cooler myself anymore. But I am also short and old.
I have seen smaller bottles for sale at Walmart. Not sure of the size, but they look like 2 or 3 gallons.
I just bought a pitcher with a filter and use it for everything. Every time I use it I refill it whether it is a lot or a little.
It works for me.
If you already have a filtered pitcher evaluate how much water you filter per month vs the cost of a cooler.
BeckyI did for years with Crystal Rock. Super convenient. They’d drop full bottles on my porch and take away empties. When I started it was about $28/month which included the cooler rental.
By the end of 2023 it had ballooned to roughly $55 a month.
I couldn’t justify it any longer. I bought a cooler unit and refill the bottles at Walmart.
I saved $600 in 2024.
If you go this route and buy your own bottle watch the bottle return fee that automatically rings up with Walmart. The cashier can void that.
MandyCheck if your local Walmart has refill stations.
I do NOT like going there but the water is $3 for 5 gallons with your own jug.
TammyWe have well water but put in a reverse osmosis system years ago. We love it.
Please don’t use bottled water (I know you didn’t mention this) as it can have nano plastics in them.
Just Google bottled water plastics. I was surprised at how many!
