So my family takes a once a year trip to see my husbands family in another state.

We always took southwest but now that they are ending their free checked bags we are looking at best bang for your buck airlines.

What would you recommend? We will be traveling with a baby and a toddler.

Southwest just screwed themselves. I never even checked other airlines before, but I sure will now!

Check to see which airlines go direct to your destination (Non Stop). That’s the one I’d take..

I use United mostly its non stop to my favorite destination and I have their credit card which gives me free bag.

I have a Delta Gold Credit Card. Besides earning flight miles on every purchase, I also get 1 free checked baggage, plus free carry on and one personal item (like a purse) or diaper bag.

A good perk is that whoever travels with me gets the same perks, as long as the reservations are connected (I think up to 6 people).

I use my earned points for free tickets all the time.

Southwest is honoring free bags for tickets purchaed through May (check the date) even if you are travelling after May.

I just booked tickets for October and this was confirmed.

Maybe call them for your own peace of mind.

I use Frontier a lot. They are often delayed. I just took Spirit to NYC and it was on time and very inexpensive.

Downgrade your bags to “personal items” and stop paying for baggage.

I would look at the price of tickets with each airline and the cost of checked bags at each airline.

I don’t remember which one but at least one airline advertises first checked bag free.

Do not fly spirit or frontier. I work in travel and they cancel the most flights and I despise them and they nickel and dime a person between carryon bags, seat assignments, checked bags and they even charge you for a soda on the plane.

They made someone I knew threw their soda out after they purchased it at the airport.

Are you rapid rewards members? I think they will refund you one bag for each member.

Plus, you can get tickets with points.

It’s going to depend on what airlines fly into the airports that you use. Shop around.

I believe you get a free bag with their credit card or if you are a Rapid Rewards member.

Just saw Frontier is offering one free bag for a limited time and if it’s popular they may continue the policy.

There is no hard and fast answer to this question.

It’s going to depend on number of factors including where you’re flying to and from.
