Hair care. I have pin straight baby fine hair. I need a hair product that will control flyaways, both when my hair is long and loose, and when it is in a ponytail.

Sephora and Ulta have recommended products that leave my hair sticky, greasy, crunchy and cost a fortune! Is there a frugal product that will work for my baby-fine straight hair?

      Thank you!

I do too. I wear it up everyday in a bun with hairties….the hair ties break it which make the fly aways.

Only way to truly get rid of them is, phthalate free hair washes, extra brushing (promotes natural oils), no tight hairbands and no comor/heat.

My hair has fly aways and my daughters is flawless.

It’s hard to find, but I use this instead of conditioner on my fine/fine hair after shampooing before bed Paul Mitchell flexible style super sculpt.

I let my hair air dry at night in a scrungy or sometimes not, and use my styling tools(curling irons or flat iron) in the morning.Hairdresser since ’82. It’s not frugal but it works for me.

Hairspray seems to weigh my thin hair down now and dull it.

The pic in this profile is done by a small curling iron

I have fine hair and have used Alberto VO5 for years to control it; not greasy; I use the one for blonde/silver/gray hair.

It’s not as easy to find now.

Very economical and works for me.

I have been fighting fine, thin hair for 5 decades. I’ve used the following hairspray to hold my hair.

Pre 2021 I used Nick Chavez and LOVED it but became harder to find. Might be more hold than you want. I used this for at least 5-6 years.

From 2021-2024 I used Kenra #30. The can looks exactly like the Nick Chavez silver can. Even the #30 didn’t hold enough for me but might be enough for you!

I now use the BS Spray & Play *see pic. I bought a travel size can on vacation this January because I didn’t want to pack a full size can of Kenra.

This holds better than the Kenra #30.

Look for the travel size and see if you like it.

Google “sea salt shampoo” should give you fuller more manageable hair with the first shampoo

I have similar hair. I put it in a bun and cover with a beaded bun cover. Lightly brush the loose hairs, then spray with a “touchable” hair spray.

The key is to do it lightly, and not too close to the hair.

                  It stays nice all day.

Have you tried a keritan based leave in lotion. I don’t know the brand but I get it at the beauty supply.

                    Aka for help at counter

I use a ponytail holder that doesn’t have a seam. and twirl my hair in a ponytail style around and around. then when it gets tight, I pull the last part around the top.

keeps hair up all day. my hair is baby fine straight and has been since I was born. its past my shoulders but not super long.

then I have slips that have a double clip on one side and a triple one on the back side. I gave up using product.

I wash w rx med shampoo, then use the teal label bottle of conditioner that is hask argan oil. I have to wash every morning as is oily.

I used to use a suave kids conditioner as product as it was a leave in stuff.

I live your struggle! I have found that when I wash my hair in the morning and apply heat protectant spray (Sauve is my current fav) I don’t have fly aways when I just dry on low heat.

It also helps control the flyaways when I crimp my roots for volume as well.

I still get a few with crimping, but a very very small bit of hair spray tames those while still allowing movement.

Color Wow has wonderful products for volume and style. After years of hating stiff, sticky products I will only buy Color Wow.

They aren’t cheap, but they work and last a long time.

Any conditioner in my straight baby fine hair weighs it down. I still haven’t found anything I could use to keep my fly away hair down

Try certified organic coconut oil. See how much you need and when to use it, meaning I use it right after I shower when it’s still wet.

You might like it better after your hair dries.
