I’m looking for some advice and would appreciate any helpful input. I have a Pyrex container with a plastic lid that unfortunately got too hot—probably from being too close to a heat source—and now it’s cracked on the side.
The crack isn’t huge, but it has made the lid loose and less effective at sealing.
Is there any safe and practical way to fix or reinforce the lid so I can still use it, at least for storage?
I know replacements are available, but I’d prefer to try repairing it first if possible.
If anyone has experienced something similar or has tips on heat-safe repair methods (like food-safe adhesives or creative DIY solutions), I’d love to hear them.
Please keep the comments respectful—I’m just trying to salvage something if I can. Thanks in advance for your help!
KathyI have been slowly replacing mine with silicone lids from Amazon. Cracking on the side like that is the way they always fail for me, and the silicone is flexible, so it won’t do that.
I also like to get the bowls without lids from thrift stores for cheap, and just get new lids
TamaraNo idea about fixing but Amazon sells replacements. Mine have cracked from dishwasher and microwave use.
MichelleI didn’t know how to fix it, but I’ve found replacement lids online for my broken ones
WolfeNo way to really fix it, but you can replace them inexpensively on Amazon.
I’ve stopped using the lids in the microwave because I had issues with them warping.
JoanneUnfortunately, I don’t think so. I recently bought a 3 pack of round Pyrex ones from Amazon to replace 2 of mine that cracked like that.
EricaHalf of mine look like that and I still use them, I’m waiting until a few more crap out and I’ll buy a replacement set of lids
LoriI don’t think you can fix it since it’s a flexible piece that gets stretched
NancyYou can sew it. It doesn’t “fix” it, but holds it together to prevent further damage.
SerenaThat has happened to mine and I end up finding pieces of plastic in my food.
I ended up buying replacements.
SharonDon’t risk it. Some glass and especially Corelle can shatter if dropped or damaged.
I have a big fat scar from a Corelle plate to remind me of that.
Also, be careful when putting a hot plate on a cold table.
