Has anyone had success getting their car insurance rates reduced after retiring and not driving much? Husband is 80, I’m 78. I work Part-time at home.
We go to Dr. Church and grocery store, maybe out to eat once a week.
For reference we’re in NC.
Thanks
ElizabethWhen we relocated to another state, we contacted an insurance broker. We told her what type of coverage we were seeking & she came back with a rate from a company we’d never heard of.
If you’re happy with your current coverage, first try calling them and ask if they can help you to decrease the cost.
Tell them that you’re only driving for entertainment purposes.
NeshaMy mom’s insurance jumped quite a bit when she turned 80. That’s considered a high risk category.
TerrieHave them quote with younger driver first, the older driver second.
If you drive less than 3k miles per year you should get a discount.JudyOnly by reducing the amount of miles I tell them I drive per week…but didn’t help much.
I did take an online driving refresher course (AARP, I think) that the insurance company recommended for a small discount too.
MandaI am soon to be 76 and am with
State Farm in SC. I have a device from the ins company that tracks my mileage and driving habits. It has saved me over $50.00 per month.
I pay monthly. I dint drive much either.
ShirleyState Farm offers an on-line drivers test for reducing the payment.
Also, lower mileage will get you a small reduction.
DarlaWhen we increased our deductible to $1,000, our premium decreased.
