I am ready to do the backdoor roth for the first time and rolled my traditional iras back into a 401K. My wife still has traditional iras and does not have a 401k option yet, will she be affected by the prorata rule from me?
And if not, can she do a backdoor roth without prorata rule considerations as well if its at different brokerages?
JuleRetirement accounts are individual. She will not be affected by your contributions.
SeanShe is subject to the pro rata rule and would owe taxes if she did a backdoor Roth IRA.
You can do it without issue as long as you have no pretax dollars in any IRAs.
TolgaShe is subject to prorata rule. Different brokerage does not matter. She can roll those to Roth first.
She will have to pay taxes for doing that. But once the balance is $0, pro rata won’t apply.
