Freeze yogurt or bake and freeze bread—which is better?

      Hi! Two of my kids were eating yogurt every morning for breakfast, so when they had it on sale for $4 off a large box, I got two.

      We ended up with an extra box and the best by date is today.

      I found a very easy wheat bread recipe that uses greek yogurt to make bagel/donut type things but two of these cups makes enough to last my kids a few days. My specific question is:

      Would it be better to batch make a bunch of bread and freeze it? Or freeze the yogurt, thaw and bake the bread if it? Wondering which will turn out best.

      I’m very new to making bread at home.

        Having worked at a yogurt factory many years ago. I can tell you that it’s fine way past the expiration date.

        If you open it and it’s moldy throw it away.

        And yes it can be frozen.

        Make pops for yourself or the kids. Bake it in bread, cakes and as a substitute for sour cream in any recipe.

          I’ve eaten yogurt a month past its expiration & it was just fine. It lasts a lot longer than you’d think due to the cultures in the yogurt.

          With that said, I’d bake the bread & then freeze it.

          I bake breads a lot & have had no issues doing so.

            Turn the containers upside down. Eat WELL beyond the best by date.

              We buy the large containers of Green Yogurt and add things like nuts, chia seeds, drizzle of maple syrup, fresh fruit, etc.

              Much less expensive, and the sugar content can be controlled.

                    It will be good still for weeks. The expiration date is for the seal on the container, and if it’s refrigerated and sealed, it will be good!

                      Bread freezes well, yogurt does not. But just an FYI, yogurt is good for about a month past the “best by” date, just like eggs.

                      Especially low fat or fat-free yogurt.

                        My eyes were opened when I read an excellent cook book by the Mennonites which talks at length about how buying “because it’s marked down” isn’t always a good deal if you can’t use it up in time, don’t have room store it properly, etc.

                          Make frozen yogurt pops. Add bits of granola/ cereal and chopped up berries.

                          Fill up popsicle molds place a cut piece of granola/ fruit bar on top (push in a bit) and freeze.

                            I’m not 100% sure, but I would suggest making the bread and freezing it. Bread freezes well and I’m not sure how the yogurt would freeze.

                              I don’t typically bake my bread before freezing it. I will shape and freeze the dough then thaw, rise and bake when needed.

                                Would not freeze the yogurt it will kill the active cultures in it and won’t make good bagels.

                                  It will be good for at least another 7 days
                                  You can also freeze then defrost for 1 min in the microwave (take all metal silver top off first))

                                  Then add to frozen fruit, (gone soft) and a bit of milk or juice and you’ll have smoothies

                                  Or you can make smoothies first then freeze them

                                    My doc told me to leave the yogurt out on the counter for a week and then eat it. The older it is, the more beneficial bacteria it produces.

                                    I’ve eaten it 2 months past the expired date(refrigerated) and a week past expired date at room temperature.

                                      I ate yogurt past expired date. No problem. It fixed constipation. Maybe, unsafe for people who are prone to diarrhoea.
