I’m considering going to another country for dental work, mainly because of the high costs at home.
I’ve heard that many people choose dental tourism to save money and still get quality care, but I’m curious to know what the real experience is like.
If you’ve done this before, I’d love to hear about it. What country did you visit, and why did you choose it? Were you satisfied with the treatment you received?
How did the costs compare to what you would have paid at home?
I’m also interested in hearing about the logistics—finding a clinic, communication, travel, safety, and any challenges you faced.
Would you do it again or recommend it to others?
Any honest feedback or tips would be greatly appreciated!
JanetRetired Dental Hygienist. Please find another way.
This past Tuesday, I had a patient with infected implant he received in ‘his country’… he’s not going to find a dentist in North America to touch that.3 years ago, I was removing sutures from a newly placed implant from ‘my country’… it popped out onto the tray table…> the periodontist told me to send him back to his dentist in Brazil!!!
Don’t think of $, please think of quality, license requirements, dental school and PLACE of origin on all dental liquid/ ointment/ injection that goes into your mouth and soon into your entire body/ bloodstream.
ColleenFantastic! Laser Dental in Nogales Mexico. Cheap super high tech equipment and a crown made in an hour in their lab.
SusanI had major dental work done in Cancun and I am extremely happy with the quality of care and the pricing
ShannonThe hard part is that when implants placed in other countries fail or screws break and we can’t find parts for those implants in the US.
Hope you saved enough for trips to do maintenance on these prosthetics
KathyWent to Mexico for dental care for many years. Now get work done in Spain, Tenerife Island, specifically, when I visit family.
The office I go to, and the staff are outstanding!
And the price, of course, is unbelievable, compared to the ridiculous cost here in the US.
LeahWe used to go to Mexico all the time when we lived in the valley. Great work cheap.
Of course that was 30 years ago.
BarbaraWe went to Costa Rica. Very happy with the work and the savings.
It’s probably only worth it if you have a lot of work to be done though.
BrianaI’ve had dental work done in Mexico and in Vietnam. I didn’t travel there to get work done though, I happened to be living there and needed work done.
An extraction and implant in Mexico & a sinus lift, implant, and crown in Vietnam.
I’ve fortunately had really good experiences and my implant in Mexico is still going strong 4 years later. I did the crown in the U.S. following the Mexico implant and the U.S.
dentist was amazed at how well the implant was done for a small town in Mexico.
I think it can be really hit or miss. I know people who have done dental work abroad and had great experiences and people who have done it and have had bad experiences.
Do your research well if you plan on it!
JaneI live in Hungary and private dental work here is very good, and a lot cheaper than the US.
It’s a “dental tourism” country
JenI live in Morocco and have the best dentist I have ever had. Great prices, too.
