No judgement please. Is there a way to “dress up” leggings? I am going back to work for the first time following two rounds of cancer treatments.

I have gained weight and the only thing I have is a pair of leggings or stretch jeans.

There’s no goodwill near me and the local Thrift doesn’t carry my size (26/28). I have tried buy nothing groups near me for several weeks with no leads at all.

How can I use what I have and stretch that out until I get my first paycheck?

I don’t want to come off as unprofessional or sloppy but it’s either I skip buying my medication this week or buy a few shirts and pants. I’m honestly torn. I don’t have friends my size either so I can’t swap with them.

What is the rule of thumb for business casual offices nowadays? It’s been years since I’ve had to worry about this.

      Any advice is appreciated!

Just wear a blouse that is long enough to cover your butt and crotch area and add a cardigan.

If they are black people might not be able to tell they are not just fitted pants

Well, I went to my first day. I wore black leggings with a white shirt and a grey, black and white striped cardigan over it that went to just above my knees.

I got through the shift and just as I was leaving my boss informs me we can’t wear leggings.

Yes, to long tunics. Do your nails and hair and makeup. Wear cute shoes. You will be fine

Walmart has dresses on cheap rn. Otherwise wear the nicest simplest outfit you already have with clean hair and fresh makeup!

you will look fine don’t worry!

Business casual is more casual than business at least where I work a long shirt or blouse as suggested and if you have a scarf you could dress it up with that or some jewlery

SHEIN curve. I myself just started back to work after a couple years of being unemployed. You may even need to buy a size down cuz they run big.

I shopped the sale section only.

You can return from an order only once without paying shipping. Several items I didn’t care for (material was weird).

I bought shirts and pants for $5 each.

Buy a long blouse to go over your leggings and that will dress it up – as well as shoes.

I’m a teacher and I wear my leggings with dresses. The shorter dresses look more like a tunic rather than a dress.

Keep the leggings dark and no wild prints.

Wear a dress or skirt and nice blouse with it, have shoes that can look nice with it as well (wear small boots if your leggings have a bit of extra material at the bottom). Basically, have them stand in as a more versatile/easier to manoeuvre in stockings

Sometimes you might find a local charity called something like dress for success.

It provides a couple of outfits for someone going back to work after some time off

Check with the cancer coordinator at your center and see if they have any funds available to help you or a clothes closet. Also ask at a church near by you.

They may be able to help in this situation.

Also some of the people on here are willing to help so set up a wish list on Amazon. We do understand your situation.

Hope you are able to make this work.

I agree that a long top with leggings should be ok. When I was coming back to work after a cancer surgery I told my manager that I needed to wear athletic shoes (which was a no no) because it was too painful to walk with regular shoes.

                            She was ok with it.

People are pretty flexible if they are aware of what is happening.

Talk to HR or your new boss to explain that you will be able to purchase business casual clothing with your first paycheck.

If you are proactive most employers will be understanding.

If it still feels awkward, “need to wear soft, comfortable clothes for a little while yet” would do.

Walking through this with my daughter, and wishing you lovely surprises!

Please dress as best as you can. Add so jewelry, a blouse, and sensible shoes. If anyone says anything, which they should not, please send them to HR.

Good luck to your return to work.

I wear leggings all of the time. I dress them up with low heeled boots, or just tennis shoes as I work in a restaurant (office part of restaurant).

I also pair with a nice blouse.

What size are you? You can dm me.

I have some items I can let go of that are on the larger size.

Willing to ship at my expense to help someone out as I’d rather items be used
