I love to travel, it’s what I live for.. Any tips on ways to do holidays frugally / save more towards holidays?
What are your best tips for traveling on a budget while saving more for future holidays?
I’m looking for practical advice on affordable destinations, cost-cutting strategies, and smart saving habits.
Whether it’s budget airlines, off-season travel, or creative ways to stretch my money, I’d love to hear your insights!
Thanks so much
AnnetteTravel is my priority so every decision I make is to that end. My money lasts longer by going independently, using public transportation and my feet and eating from markets instead of restaurants.
The less money I spend on things I don’t need the more I can spend on adventuring the world.
SuzyI recycled aluminum cans, saved all my change, sold things I didn’t need, did NOT eat out at all in any way shape or form.
I put $10 in the kitty each week and on my birthday and Christmas I gave the kitty $100 for those 2 days.
I didn’t have a smart phone or smart TV, I had a reliable older car that was paid for, I only bought clothes through thrift stores.
Oh, and with that money, I was able to travel on 2 weeks long vacations to Cabo two years in a row.
JessicaKeep opening up credit cards that offer huge mileage discounts. You need to pay close attention to all the fine print.
Become a blogger so you can “claim” all your travel expenses, down to the pastry you just ate, on your tax return.
AnisaStaying in Hostels, usually a bit cheaper, and they’re usually unique. Only bring a backpack with a few changes of clothes so you don’t have to pay a check back fee.
And get flights on off hours/days.
Look for alternative travel too like trains and buses, may take longer but a lot of times its cheaper and again unique,!
AngelaWe’re fortunate that my husband travels occasionally for work. He accrues hotel points and airline miles that we then use for vacations.
We stay at a hotel with free breakfast and a fridge in the room so we can buy stuff for sandwiches and snacks and not have to eat out for every meal.
We look for mostly free or discounted things to do, which lets us pay to do one big thing.
LoisI had, due to a divorce, big legal bills. I opened up a credit card that gave 90,000 points if I spent x amount in a specific time.
If you know you have big bills coming, look to do that.
I did pay off my cc every month.
NiveditaWe try to get room with basic kitchen facility so we can prepare basic meal atleast once, also I carry my coffee in my small flask, and now days I avoid shopping except for fridge magnets ..!!
Thanks for posting this topic as am planning my upcoming europe trip.
AnnieAs much fun as it is to plan a vaction way in advance, there are some really great last minute travel bargains.
Granted, you don’t always get to pick the perfect dates – and sometimes you end up heading to a different destination than first considered – but if you have the flexibility an impromptu trip can be put together with some really substantial savings.
MarshaYou can always change the menu, like making a soup and sandwich night with sides.
CindyFind a credit card that give rewards to travel. Always pay the full balance monthly.
