My husband has a Roth IRA at Athene, and I’d like him to invest in the S&P 500.
However, when he called, they inquired about investing with or without a charge.
Could you explain this and recommend alternative investments if not the S&P 500?
RaFirst step, don’t add any more money to the Roth with Athene.
Next, open a Roth IRA elsewhere (regular brokerage firm such as Fidelity , vanguard, Schwab, E-Trade etc)
Contribute to the account and invest in an S&P 500 index fund like VOO.Finally, figure out what’s going on with the Athene Roth IRA. It sounds like it isn’t suitable for you, but ask them to explain it until you understand it.
Decide if you’re going to keep the money there or transfer it to your new IRA, and what that would entail.
SeanSo, he has his Roth IRA in an annuity? Why? You guys appear to be quite young still.
Unless there is another Athene, they only appear to offer annuity options. So, S&P probably isn’t an option there.
