I have a salt water pool that I’m in 1 to 2 hours every day.
I normally do not get my hair wet since i’m just floating around. My question is how often
do you think I should shower? I’ve cut back to showering about twice a week mostly to wash my hair! When I swim in chlorinated water, I feel like I have to take a shower afterwards, but I don’t feel the same with the salt water.
Is this gross?
Lol!
ElizabethAs we get older we don’t need to shower daily (washing is sufficient) but I would rinse off salt. I’ve never used a salt water pool, always showered after swimming in the ocean.
Is your filtration system really keeping the water clean without chemicals?
Do you use lotion, deodorant, etc. that get in the water?
I’m getting more of an ick vibe from that rather than how often you shower.
And the people who make nasty comments are the gross ones.
JulietI live in Texas where showering daily is a must. I wash my hair every 2-3 days but washing my body is a must.
Pools are not a substitute.
ChantalI couldn’t not shower daily because I sweat like a man lol however, e/o day is prob sufficient if your swimming that much.
Salt water pools are still Chlorinated though it’s just a natural chlorine created by salt water and the process it runs through in the salt water chlorinator.
DawnYes, shower daily, especially if you work with people or live with people. They will appreciate it.
The problem I find is that when people are stinky they don’t know they’re stinky.
Summer is too hot. Mom of adult 5 sons
RenéeYou’re asking this question to a person who literally took 3 showers yesterday. There is no way I couldn’t shower daily.
I don’t wash my hair every day.
Maybe every 2-3
CedraNot gross at all. By immersion in water (which has been treated) you have rinsed off skin cells, perspiration, creams, lotions etc.
We ladies used to shower after our aqua classes at the gym to remove the chlorine (very drying) and to warm up, then apply body lotion.
BarbaraNot gross to me at all! Do what works for your skin and lifestyle.
I shower when I feel the need. Between I just wash up the important parts.
LamanIf you’re not stinking, not getting a rash etc I think you can shower whenever you dang well feel like it.
And even if you are stinking and getting a rash, still your choice!
HarSince everyone has a different yuk level, you’re going to never get a single answer.
Showering x2 a week is plenty.
You can judge if it’s not enough.
KatieI would rinse for like a minute, ideally before and after. Otherwise your pool is essentially a bathtub that you don’t drain.
Otherwise I don’t think showering a couple of times a week is weird at all.
The amount of people clutching their pearls is hilarious.
It’s just a matter of recycling that bath water, lol.
LucyShower weekly unless you have issues. The nurse that was I ur neighbor taught us that skin is healthiest with that, and I have never seen otherwise.
GloriaAs long as you wash up daily with a wash cloth, you are fine. I do wash my face and privates but my hair gets shampooed once, maybe twice a week. Summer time I wash my feet daily too.
Unless you work in the oil or dirt, you don’t need a daily shower after using the pool. Years ago the cowboys only bathed a few times a month.
People who fly to the moon don’t shower and neither do folks in the hospital.
We use to give a shower or bedbath twice a week.
DebbieI recently read an article that said you really should only take a shower or bath 2 or 3 times weekly because daily showers were bad for your skin.
As Americans most of us shower daily because I think we have been convinced we must, but in a lot of other countries they don’t!
ElizabethSalt water over time does dry your skin out and not to mention the stench of not showering, do you drain your hot tub each time at least so you won’t simmer in dirty water?
TeresaI walked into a restaurant restroom last week. The cleaning lady was in there working in one stall, so that left only one other one for me to use.
I went in it and immediately walked back out.
There is a distinct odor that accompanies an unwashed bottom/and or other private parts.
I tell my husband and my kids…. that butt needs washing every 24 hours.
Even if I use a bidet, which I have in both bathrooms, it is my preference to wash daily.
BethI’d clean the dirty parts daily, but showering every other day or every third day is perfectly normal and acceptable.
Also washing hair in that same cadence- or even longer- is better for your hair.
You are not gross.
RogersFor the entirety of human existence … did humans shower daily? That seems to be an invention of shampoo and soap manufacturers.
Showering our entire body daily dries us out. But it depends on your activity.
If you’re in salt every day, you need to rinse it off to protect your skin.
Also wash often those areas prone to odor.
MikeThey say our bodies have a biome and that soap kills the healthy properties. So, I soap daily only pits, privates, and feet or anything visibly dirty.
They also say if you eat clean (not a lot of processed foods, carbs, sugars etc) when you sweat you don’t have the BO, that others do. – Tonya
