Is there a frugal way to get the pilling off white socks without having to shave them? I don’t have a shaver, and have sooooo many socks like this that I don’t want to spend time shaving them all (an entire family’s worth of white socks!)
I thought that I could soak all the socks in oxy and bleach water and that it would beach the balck but apparently that doesn’t work
We only buy inexpensive socks so I’m debating just replacing, but they’re still good! Waste not want not.
CeciliaNever wash them with colors again. Soak with vinegar and leave it in the sun while wet.
Hopefully they’ll be more white and pilling won’t show too much if it’s more white
MargieIn future, turn the socks (and other garments, especially sweat pants etc) inside out before washing them.
MarjorieI have a shaver that I got at Walmart for $5 and it’s the best…that was 10 years ago.
Takes an AA battery
RobinTry looking for socks on sale with the most cotton content.
They will not only last longer but won’t pill like this.
ZoeyA fabric comb. I think in US they are called cashmere or wool combs. There are cheap versions at $2 shops or supermarket.
IMO far more efficient and easier to use than any other method or those electric shavers designed to remove pilling.
Also great for getting pet hair off carpet lol
StephanieShave them, they have the shavers on Amazon for cheap and they can be used on lots of things, clothes, pillows etc.
SandraI wear those socks for working at home and when I don’t care. I have a couple newish white pairs I save to wear only when it matters.
I separate whites and colors but it still happens. Septic so no bleach. Going to try washing inside out, good idea.
ErikThere’s this product you can buy that you brush against your clothes and it pulls them off. I forget what it’s called.
It’s charcoal gray and very lightweight. Looks like a little miniature brick.
CaitLeaving wet whites out overnight, sun bleaches them. The sun comes up, suns rays refracts in the dew or wet whites and automatically bleaches any white fabric.
Discovered that years ago.
Try a stiff haiemr brush. Fibers get caught up In the bristles.
CaitIt looks suspiciously like fuzz from sweat pants or gym pants.
Try using a very stiff hair brush and see if that helps a bit.
