I think the most frugal thing any of us can do is slow down, look and listen. Yesterday I wanted to use an online petstore coupon.

The clerk argued with me about it. Called manager over who charged me full price. said coupon not good in sale items.

Not so. I called the company. They refunded the difference in price.

Today my phone needed repair. Insurance said no. Called provider. ok then refund my insurance payments. No they said we’ll make it right.

Normally I’m so busy and in such a hurry I tend to let stuff pass. Pet store $45 saving. Telephone well over $100.

I don’t think we have to eat expired food to be frugal when we’re smart.

Many places depend on folks NOT standing up for themselves and accepting the denial of discount, coupon, deal.

One can be civil and rational when advocating for yourself but it takes time, which we all seem to be short on.

Honestly, sometimes the retail employees argue so much about price/deals starting to make me think the difference is coming out of their paycheck

          thanks for the good tips.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Always self advocate!

Making every effort to Hold people accountable to honor their commitments (be it a business, employer, family member or friend) is a principle we would all do well to practice.

And.. we should not hesitate to spread the word when they don’t, in order to help others not be taken advantage of.

By the same token, I always love to hear about folks who go over and above in service to others. Tolerance. In many instances is OVER rated.

Watching medical bills in this same way can get you some good savings too. They go too fast when coding and code it wrong or understaffed or new person.

It took me from Jan to Dec arguing a hospital bill was 1500 higher than it should be.

In the end they wrote off all 1900 of it since it was their mistake.

It was very tedious to remember to call and question every other month, but I was not paying for their mistake.

Last year after Christmas, Walmart had an aisle of items marked 75% off lowest price. I picked up a number of items but at checkout that extra 75 % was not given.

The manager was called and she said, “Well, it’s still a pretty good discount” What???

I said Not good enough and not what was posted. After a bit of verbal sparring the manager agreed to honor the posted discount.

Always check your receipt, take pics of posted prices. Walmart is awful about this.

We had to purchase a new refrigerator yesterday. Went to Lowe’s because of the 10% Veterans discount.

Seems it doesn’t apply to refrigerators!

Our pet Store had a 30% coupon online for dog food. Went in the store and the clerk said we couldn’t use it. Talked to the manager and she rang it up.

We saved $37 on a big bag of Purina pro plan!

Every time we get a coupon like that we end up speaking to the manager!

When you are right you’re right. We need to try and pursue like you did what is due.

Let’s put this on the to do list of resolutions we all make.

This one we all might keep. Thanks for sharing.

We have bought appliances at Lowes and Home Depot in the past few years and have used the Veterans discount at both stores.

I don’t let anyone get away with anything when I’m in the right. I have bucked up against managers.

I used to be shy and not pursue things -I have saved myself literally $1000’s of dollars.

Yesterday I negotiated with the newspaper and today I negotiated with cell service!!!

Each had increased its charge (without fanfare) by $15 and $21 per month!!
