I’m considering applying for the Chase IHG Rewards credit card and wanted to hear from others who have experience with it.
How does it compare to other hotel cards in terms of rewards, benefits, and overall value?
I’m especially interested in your thoughts on the free anniversary night, how easy it is to redeem points, and whether the annual fee is worth it in the long run.
If you’ve used the card for booking stays, earning elite status, or traveling internationally, I’d love to know how it performed. Also, how does customer service stack up, and have you run into any issues?
Any pros, cons, or personal tips would be appreciated. Just trying to decide if it’s a good fit for my travel goals.
Thanks in advance for your input!
MeganCobranded cards have their place, but it folded into an overall points portfolio rooted in flexible points.
Card strategy doesn’t exist in a vacuum, what is full lineup of your current cards with MM/YY opened? This information better helps others help you with strategy.
For cobrandeds you do want to wait for elevated SUBs and right now the IHG Personal SUB isn’t elevated.
The IHG Business card does have an elevated SUB though.
RickGood value card. Not a first five cards outside a super signup points promotion much larger than usual. But a good value card.
Helpful for mid west and west travel as there are far more IHG locations than the usual best hotel points card of Hyatt.
Similar with international travel.
I think my IHG card, grandfathered version, has a $75 annual fee and I am certain I get $150-200 stay covered by the “free” night annual fee certificate.
And I usually earn 1-2 other nights for free just through some ancillary card/stay use (I use chase sapphire preferred as main card and it gets 90%+ of my usual spend).
BrittanyIf you travel for extend amounts of time it is definitely worth it. If you redeem 3 nights with points your 4th is free.
Also, complementary upgrades.
I just used my first free anniversary night for the Crowne Plaza downtown Seattle and they upgraded me to the King suite with Space needle view!
JustinI like mine, I take a lot of road trips and there are plenty of holiday inn expresses in tiny towns for overnight stops.
Definitely not as nice as Hyatt, but worth it if you take road trips.
ScottDo you stay at IHG properties?
If so, since you are ready staying there, yeah.If not, not high on the list of hotel branded cards I would get.
